I always leave the blood on, but not for any "sociopathic" reasons or because it "feels better." See, there's a scene in Xenosaga Episode II that doesn't make any sense without the blood. Spoilers for the game ahead (and I don't know how to put spoiler tags on), but what happens in one of the main characters walks in to see her mother dead and a pool of blood around her chest and, upon seeing this, she tries to put the blood back in her mother's body. The US version, though, was censored to remove ALL blood from the scene to keep it rated T. Without the blood, the scene makes no sense; I had to look up the original scene to make sense of it.
Basically, there are situations where the blood not only helps in immersion but also helps create an emotional impact that increases the effect the game has on the player.
@ogo79 the guy hacking the dinosaur and the lady who ditches the baby and falls into a well. What games are those?
the guy turning the dinosaur into steaks is the arcade game called cadillacs and dinosaurs and the one where the smart lady that realizes being a parent is probably a terrible idea is the game called warriors of fate.
the japan playstation and saturn versions are arcade ports meaning that scene is intact in those releases.

I tend to avoid games that have a lot of excessive blood and gore. Not because it's scary or I'm squeamish but because I think that desiring to see it for the sake of seeing it is quite adolescent.
That's kind of how I feel about this, and not just with video games; this extends to movies, etc. with me, too. I don't mind some blood as long as it fits the situation (like stabbing someone in Assassin's Creed) because I fully expect someone to bleed from a wound like that. Conversely, if an enemy erupts a fountain of blood fit for ten corpses instead of one, then I consider that pretty excessive. It's the main reason why I normally don't play games like Mortal Kombat since I find gorefests like that are relatively pointless.
@NEStalgia: Wait, what's this about my favorite former IGN staff member?
@Tyranexx Same here. Plus, despite how I don't typically shy away from violent games at all, MK kind of crosses the line for me. Maybe it's irrational to think that, since you're killing a virtual person regardless of whether you simply shoot them or do a finisher in MK, but it's just too extreme for me.
@Tyranexx LOL! Audrey is....remarkably terrifying.... The fact that she can completely subtlely, completely naturally slip somewhat more than slightly sociopathic comments in, as though she doesn't actually know the things she's saying are sociopathic.....making it legit...occasionally punctuated with a big smile and a laugh that says "I'm going to murder you while you sleep. Teehee!"
That said, she crossed into an all new level of Audrey-ish Audreyness during her Zelda DLC coverage with her slightly too serious genocidal declarations.... which she felt the need to reiterate. Twice. The reaction from Theresa and Kendra was priceless, as though at any moment they were about to jump up and say "Hey, look, it's the Playstation booth! Gotta to run!"

@NEStalgia: XD One of the reasons why I love Audrey so much! I missed that particular segment of the Treehouse coverage since I haven't played BotW yet. I was afraid I would run across spoilers if I watched it.
