I'm not sure why but I often have the same dream. It may mean something or it could just be rubbish. Anyway, the dream is about me losing my teeth. I see them falling out and sometimes it seems like I can actually feel them loose and wiggling around in my mouth. I always check for my teeth every time I wake up and yes they are all still there! LOL!

i heared that if you dream about losing teeth , a loved-one will die
it's an old saying

Ah, the old tooth falling out dream. One of Freuds four common themes of dreaming, along with being nude in public, fallling from a great height and flying. Freud hypothesized that dreaming of losing your teeth shows deep insecurity and a fear that you have no control over your life.

@irken004: If that was true, you'd be EXTREMELY unhealthy, and pretty much unable to function. More likely, you just NEVER remember your dreams for any period of time. Some people are like that.

Yep. I have the nude in public one pretty frequently (I'm sure it's been at least 30 times), and a few falling dreams, but never flying or losing teeth (that I remember).

What are the other ones meant to mean?

Freud felt that the dreams of flying didn't having anything to with flight or traditional freedom, but rather sexual freedoms. It was a way of escaping sexual repression, with the symbols you see while flying reprsenting what you had repressed, from promiscuity to latent homosexual fantasies.

Freudian theory says that dreams of falling may mean that you lack discretion or have a terror of failure. Sexually speaking, he said that it may represent the desire to give in to sexual desires that you hide from yourself.

Regarding dreaming of being nude in public , Freud felt that it might be a hidden desire to return to simpler times of your life (such as when you were a child and, of course, "naked") and protected. It is usually felt to be a deep rooted sign of insecurity about the direction of your life.

Don't worry, Carl Jung has your back. His take would be much more open to your own personal interpretation.

To be fair to Sigmund, his overall method for exploring the meaning of dreams is much more complex and nuanced than certain passages might suggest. He does, in some places, venture too far into the territory of citing particular common dream symbols and giving general meanings for them, but that's not the core of his work on the matter by any means, and those sections weren't even originally included in The Interpretation of Dreams, being added in a later revision.

The same can be said for all areas of Freud's work -- he explored some tremendously complex subject matter, and was usually quite adept at taking an approach that does justice to the matters under discussion, but there are always passages you can find where he seems to say "X means Y", and these are unfortunately what always gets recalled about Freud, since his entire approach is not exactly an easy thing to consume or get your head around.

I'd also like to add that the pop version of Freud's Ego/id/Superego bears little resemblance to his work, and this 3-part split was only one of several completely different "topologies" of the mind that he produced, each of which is meant to be useful on a metaphorical or analogical basis, but none of which is meant to stand on its own as a real account of distinct parts of the mind.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

The other night I dreamt that Barney was in Brawl. His smash attack was that he takes off his suit, the screen goes dark, killing everything. And then he turns into Giga Barney, which is a huge evil Barney who is on fire, and you run around the stage burning everything while that "Barney Is On Fire" song plays in the background.

It was a cool dream.
