@StarBoy Nice blog. Got to agree with ouenben on a few things. I find it's very important thing to make sure your colors have good contrast so the text is easy to read, which is generally white on black, black on white, or rarely, yellow on dark blue etcetera. Something similar. The areas that are blue-on-blue are a tad hard to read, and may strain the eyes of some visitors. Also, I enjoyed reading your Kirby's Dreamland review. Bookmarked your blog.

@Sylverstone Went to your blog, not knowing exactly what to expect, and had quite a few laughs. Good job.

I'll take a look at your blog tomorrow man. Thanks for also posting impressions of people's blogs as that's what I am trying to encourage.
Let me know what you think of mine if you get the chance

@ouenben - I like the choice of colors you made for your blog, and I like how professional it looks

@ouenben You've got a nice variety, although the lack of focus on one form of media may make it hard to find an audience. I liked reading "Student Experiences: Studying Video Games Design", and found it very interesting. The site layout is not bad, but I don't see tags or categories. Due to your large variety, I am doubtful that someone looking just, let's say, for iOS reviews will want to go through your archive and scan through every post. It's not a major problem, but it might be nice to have, especially when the amount of posts on your blog starts to rise.

@NetrackSteven64 Nice. I like the sky backdrop and transparent text background. Easy to read, and it fits with the atmosphere of the site. Only thing I might recommend is to increase the amount of articles on a single page of the home page. Three at a time can be tedious for those wishing to quickly browse the new content of your site, maybe five might be more appropriate?

thanks for the feedback man.
There are tags though not every article has them though I may go back and add them. I plan on adding categories at the side for Reviews/features etc once there's a little more content on there. It only started last month but I'm at 1500 views already so I'm pretty pleased.

I just started it a few weeks ago. That latest one on Uncharted 3 is a bit of an experiment, but please feel free to give me some feedback. So far I've covered Super Mario Land 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 3 and the new Coldplay album.

@ouenben Sounds good. I didn't categorize stuff into News, Reviews etcetera until I had a decent amount of posts either. A nice amount of views and comments considering you only started it last month.

@Kid_A I can see the kind of articles you're writing being a double-edged sword. It'll attract readers who like beefier, opinionated pieces, but might not hold the attention of readers who prefer light reading. However, I found your writing style to flow well, and hold my attention long enough to get to the end of each article. I generally tire easily, and don't stay to read longer pieces, so that's pretty good. I found the Uncharted 3 article to be... interesting. It has a very negative, dry/sarcastic, feel about it. Not a bad read, but not the kind of stuff I want to read all the time. It was somewhat humorous, to be honest, but people tend to like positivity most of the time. After reading the article, I had to see the... eh-hem, interesting review of Nukem that Kill Screen put out. I think I need to scrub my brain.

Good job overall. Bookmarked.

Thanks so much for the feedback
The Uncharted 3 post is intended to be a joke. The gag is that it's written by some guy named Martin Grumble, who's supposed to be basically your typical Internet gamer douche bag. The kind of guy who complains about "bias!" every time a game gets a score higher/lower than he thinks it should; the kind of guy who would refer to himself as a "real gamer." I absolutely LOVE Uncharted 3, and I also love Kill Screen, IGN and Gamespot. But it's clear that the joke wasn't obvious enough so next time I'll try and make that more clear.

As for the other stuff, you're correct in that I'm definitely trying to go for beefy, thoughtful pieces. And that's ultimately the sort of readers I want. I think what you've brought my attention to is that I should try and maybe mellow out a bit. They're a bit serious, these blog posts (the U3 joke not withstanding) and might come across as a bit overly heavy.

Once again, thanks so much for the feedback!

You're welcome. Yeah, I think it needs to be a little clearer when you're joking, might be a tad confusing. Although, I tend to find it hard to differentiate sarcastic/joking tones, etcetera when I am very tired, so it's most likely just me, and not too big of a deal. Re-reading the Uncharted 3 post, your meaning is very clear except at the very beginning. But maybe that's only really because I'm not a big fan of Kill Screen, so perhaps when someone mentions anything bad about them, I assume they are serious.

I often enjoy reading longer, opinionated pieces, but find I tend to tire long before finishing them. You're writing style seems to lend itself well to longer pieces, and prevent them from getting stale. I'll often go to page, think, "Oh, that's interesting. I'll read that," get half way through, and then bookmark it to never return, so the fact I actually finished reading your posts is an accomplishment. You're Uncharted 3 post is actually quite humorous in many areas.

"I recently had the misfortune of playing Naughty Dog's latest over-rated, turd-on a disc that some would prefer to call Uncharted 3. After pushing through some on-rails chase sections while occasionally tapping the X button, and struggling with worst shooting mechanics since, like, friggin' history, it was obvious Naughty Dog had pushed out another stinker. So imagine the (admittedly partially-Dorito induced) nausea I experienced when I saw that this game had a flippin' 93 on Metacritic! I think there's a fitting LOLcat pic that could accurately mirror my shock, but my mom blocked Google Images on my computer."
"I am with you Skyangelz; I double-checked your math on this with my dad's measuring tape, and I must say I applaud your willingness to go above and beyond for your customer review. The rate of exchange for aiming in this game is indeed one meter per centimeter; I tried hip-firing while rolling during the opening scene and I ended up in the post credits sequence! And thank the heavens someone is finally willing to speak out about history. It is the worst. Is there anything more predictable than events that already happened? You can see it coming a mile away. Remember that time Sir Francis Drake found a fountain in an ancient city on a secret mission from the Queen of England? Yeah, you and every doofus who went to history class in second grade."

That, among other passages, were pretty funny. Had a few chuckles. Sadly I need some work on this kind of stuff. I don't generally write longer pieces, and I think if I tried to do what you do on your blog, I'd soon get lost in my ramblings and go stark raving mad. So, you've got my respect for that. I tend to write Reviews, along with articles about stuff I find interesting. Nothing too heavy. Closest thing I can find recently that I wrote to the kind of stuff you do was about the Kuribo's Shoe. It's not my Forté, I guess.

Good articles. I like your writing style, informative with hints of sarcasm. That's my kind of read!

On another note, does anyone have any impressions on my blog? I know there's not much there, but it would be nice to get some criticism so I can knock out some early problems...

A very enjoyable blog, in my opinion. Everyone loves a list. I too found the purple water in Sonic 2 to be really scary for some reason

One thing I noticed is that in your Muramasa piece under the Semi Obscure games list, you write "It's no secret that the Wii is no stranger to criticism." You've got a double introduction going on there, and it reads a bit awkwardly. Saying either, "It's no secret that the Wii is heavily criticized," or, "The Wii is no stranger to criticism" would have been better; but honestly, they're both kinda "meh" intros, don't you think? I feel like every IGN article I read starts with something like that. Introductions are importatant, and when doing reviews and editorials for NLife or just stuff for my blog, I've found it beneficial to think, "Okay, is this A) Attention-getting and B) Original?" Because you obviously have talent, and there's a likable, down-to-earth quality about your writing, and I think you can do better.

As I said though, I enjoyed your blog quite a bit, and I also found it helpful: that RPG you mentioned in the Semi-Obscure list intrigued me.

@Kid_A: Thanks for the tips! In all honesty, I felt kind of awkward writing that intro too. It just felt a little bland, but I never got around to touching it up. I'll try to fix that soon.

And I'm always happy to introduce someone new to Dark Alliance II. Good luck finding it though, if you ever decide to search for it. The team that made it was let go once the game was finished, so there's no hope of the cliffhanger ending getting resolved. Despite that, it's a really awesome game!

I could've sworn I left impressions of your blog a few days back, but I didn't. So I rewrote them and I thought I posted them yesterday but, yet again, didn't somehow. So forgetful of me.

Well, by now, Kid A has covered almost everything. Only things I remember mentioning were that I found it slightly odd to actually see indentations, since I rarely do on the web, but that's neither here-nor-there since I don't think anyone really cares either way. Also, I personally find white-on-black schemes tiring to the eyes. Not very important stuff.

Now, what I especially liked about your blog, was that your lists contained enough variety to cover a wide audience of gamers. Your Semi-Obscure list has something for everyone, and I'm sure there's something in "Top 10 Non-Horror Games That Have Accidentally Terrified Me" that most readers can connect with (for me, it was the ReDeads, and admittedly, the Dark Trains too).

Anyone care to read over my blog and tell me what they think? Constructive criticism would be appreciated.

@SnoozeBear: Thanks for the feedback! I try to keep my lists fairly broad in terms of appeal, because I realize that no one wants to read a list that pretty much repeats the same thing over and over. Glad to hear that I'm avoiding that trap. I kind of thought my generic default black and white scheme was due for a change, but as of right now, I can't really think of a good replacement (I'm no good with colors. ) Eventually I'll get around to changing it.

As for your blog, I'm very impressed! You seem like you're up-to-date on a lot of things in the gaming community. The news you post always seems to be important, or at least interesting to the world at large. The direct and factual nature in all of your posts is something to applaud. One article I particularly remember reading was your review for Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, a game I was personally curious about. I'm noticing now that the review is featured in your signature, but I actually found it by browsing through your categories. Once again, your thoroughness informed me quite a bit!

Overall, I like the layout of your blog a lot. The tabs and different categories make it easy for me to find something of interest, even when I don't know what I want to read. It really shows that you spend a lot of time covering a broad spectrum of things.

The one thing I noticed is that maybe your writing style can be a bit TOO professional at times. It wouldn't hurt to crack a few more jokes every now and then (although I notice you doing that a bit already). I'm not saying you change how you write completely (because how you write already is great), but a witty one-liner or clever joke might make things more enjoyable to read through. Then again, that might just be my own personal preferences talking.

All-in-all though, keep up the great work!

Always glad to give feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed my blog. I did notice my lack of humour/formality so I'm glad to hear an opinion on that. In the past my categories were pretty messy, so I updated them, and now by your response they seem to be working well. Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback, it's very helpful, and thanks for your praise.

I went back to your blog, and it's a lot less tedious reading the most recent articles. Good job.
