Hi i made a Nintendo account and came to these forums because this really must be seen. Steam is currently the largest gaming network that exists yet we don't even have a single Pokemon game there. If we had them all it would be an extremely huge income of money to your company since almost everyone loves Pokemon. You have already seen many famous franchises who noone would ever expect them to come to PC yet they came because of Steam - for example Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Sonic , Mortal Kombat and a lot more

Pokemon is the most popular series that exist and it really needs its games on Steam.

This isn't an officail Nintendo forum.

Pokemon isn't the most popular series that exist.

The steam users who may buy a pokemon game is outweighed by the people who will buy both a Nintendo console and Pokemon game like you will have to.

I'm sorry, but that's not going to happen. First off, Pokémon is a money printing machine. It practically sells entire systems on its own. Heck, the two biggest reasons I even got a 3DS were Super Smash Bros and Pokémon X and Y. And I have friends who bought the game specifically for Pokémon as well. Moving it to Steam (or at least the main series games) could possibly lead to lowered system sales.

Also, Pokémon is a series that's still aiming to be as social as it can be. Features surrounding local play with friends have always been prime focuses of the games, even going as far as to create entire accessories for only that purpose (like the Pokéwalker). PCs, and especially desktops just aren't a good fit for this way of thinking.

Third, there's the fear of hacking. If you were to incorporate the online capabilities of the current games into a game on Steam, people are bound to find ways to exploit it and use hackmon. Those are already a major issue on its own, especially in the competitive scene, but putting it on pc would only expand the problem.

I think that maybe spin-offs like Pokémon Shuffle have some potential on Steam, but those are better fit on smartphones and tablet devices. The only spin-offs that have some kind of potential on Steam in my opinion are the more action-oriented spin-offs like Pokémon Rumble. But in my opinion, putting the main series Pokémon games on Steam would be a bad idea. They are very intregal to the succes of Nintendo's handhelds, and heavily rely on portability in order for them to reach their maximum potential. Sure I fought a few WiFi-battles with my friends, but nothing beats battling while sitting right next to my friends and directly communicating with them. This is what made the original Red and Blue so succesfull, and it's still intregal to the overall experience, especially to the younger audience. Sure, laptops are portable, but what kid brings his laptop to school to play Pokémon during lunch break? I remember going to my friends house after school and playing SoulSilver together, and that's still something that the younger audience, and the older audience too, enjoys. Releasing it on Steam would just take that out.
And yes, you could make an alternate version for Steam, or perhaps even re-release older titles on it, but again, that would probably hurt sales of the newer versions, as well as the systems those play on.

... No.

Personally I think Steam devalues a lot of games and Pokemon is not a series to devalue. Most Steam users don't buy games at full price, waiting for sales or bundles. Pokemon is a series that is able to hold its value even after several newer versions have been released. Diamond and Perl were still around the $40 price when Black and White 2 were releasing.

Also Pokemon works pretty well as a portable game. The connectivity you get from linking one device to another is magical. Online has replaced a lot of that but local is still beneficial for the series. I don't think Pokemon coming to Steam is a good move for the company, or the series.

plus, us console peasants need something to hold over the Master Race's heads lol jk

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The Pokemon Company have openly admitted to laughing at things like this. They don't care about you, or about your ideals for how they should run their company, and they don't even care about people (most of which are big Pokemon fans) who very regularly plead for the perfect MMO Pokemon game, more likely than not on PC. They only care about continuing to rake it in, with a guaranteed 10 million + sales from each new entry that doesn't require huge amounts of investment. With Pokken, Pokemon Z (very likely) Pokemon Go amongst other smaller games this year their bottom line will be very healthy this year. They don't need or care for Steam or PC.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that is the company summed up.

PS Nintendo have very little to do with it.

PPS No one important (love most of you no offence intended!) will read this.

Keep dreaming on, It is free.

Maybe NL should do an editorial explaining Why first party games, are, well, exclusive? Topics like this Keep popping up From time to time....Port begging for multiplatform games? Ok, yeah, could happen. Port begging for first party game? Geez, you really think a company is going to give up their prized assets, the very thing that sells ardware?

Nah m8, first we should totally put Mario on PC. That'll be the first step towards Nintendon't going multiplatform and therefore not sucking. Untitled

While I do think Steam is a great place to play games, it would be pretty dumb if the Pokemon series went on PC due to some reasons listed here already. Plus I doubt they'd sell as well compared to being on a Nintendo console considering a large majority of Steam users wait for sales since they happen a bit too frequently to be even bothered to buy games at full price.

I'm not lazy! ...I'm just very forgetful. :|

Highly doubt that will happen soon, and to be honest I don't want it to. Steam would probably ruin the Pokemon franchise, and as mentioned already everyone who isn't a major fan would wait till the sales therefore reducing the amount of profit. Also, Nintendo consoles wouldn't make as much money because most people would be buying the games from sales on Steam. Also, Pokemon doesn't feel like a PC game; it has a portable touch to it, and losing that would be horrible. I think the games should stay on handheld devices unless a new type is created or it's Rumble, etc. Then it could be released on consoles, but not PC. Steam has enough great games franchises right now without the Pokemon one getting involved.

...can you imagine the hacking? Geez I'd stop playing pokemon the second they announced something so silly. Anyway, if you want to play something on an exclusive system...buy the system it comes out on. That's gaming 101.

I believe NeoGaf has a rule against port begging. We really should have it here to. Unless we already have.

I second this. And maybe an article explaining that while Gamefreak isn't a first party studio, Pokemon is a first party game.
