Topic: Could you flip-flop Metroid and Zelda?

Could Nintendo make coherent games where Link finds himself in a Samus like situation and Samus in a Zelda like adventure? Of course you can pick other elements from the games to switch out, but this is what came to my mind. Say Link is getting into some old things in his house, like his grandfather's chest. He opens it to find a bunch of old things; the hookshot, a bow, boomerang and other items. He picks up a box that has that games evil sealed away and when it gets out, all the items are scattered about and Link goes on a quest to get back all the items and seal the evil away again. Or something to the same end.
Where in Samus' case, it's a bit harder to do, as to not reboot the game. The best case I could think of would be to tell the story of Samus right after leaving the Galactic Federation and how she originally came to acquire all of her power ups. Though I don't know all of the Metroid story lines, so that may already be covered.
If you'd rather just turn this into a gender topic, (Such as could Zelda be the playable character in a game?) that's fine too. A swap of settings seems like it would never work, but if someone has idea as to how it could, go ahead and share them.

What you just described was making a new Metroid game in the style of Metroid games and making a new Zelda game in the style of Zelda games.

We need a new Tetris game like a Tetris game!

You could, because the series are fairly similar in the basic scheme of things (exploring fairly open worlds, collecting items/upgrades to open new areas and solve puzzles, etc).

Additionally, you could very much even have a Zelda game that plays out like a 2D Metroidvania one without too much hassle. In fact, I remember actually seeing a really well done Zelda fan game that was pretty much just that.

So you could switch these series in terms of gameplay, yes.

The CDi Zelda were not well done. They were medium rare.

they could make DLC "zelda in space" and "metroid in hyrule" this kind of crazy thing that can't be a full blown game and probably disgusted by hardcore fans should be DLC, because it's different! it's real extra content!
and your idea is really making a zelda-like zelda and a metroid-like metroid...... I'd dig that easily!!!

I wouldn't because I found logic.

so i read the title and pictured little floating Zelda faces with creepy teeth and visible brainmeats attacking Samus, and then Mother Brain as the princess Link is so desperately racing to save. Thanks for that, i guess i needed more nightmare material D:

No; the games are conceptually different. Zelda is all about adventure and growing stronger, with emphasis placed on narrative and strategy. Metroid is about mystery and crawling your way out of an unknown environment by any means necessary -you never know what you'll encounter on the next room- with emphasis on intense, reaction-based action.

It's hard to free fools from the chains they revere.

The last triforce is in captivity. Hyrule... is at peace.

I wouldn't mind a first person Metroid game with dungeon areas within its regions; however, I probably would mind a Zelda game without dungeons. I think Metroid could gain more from implementing Zelda concepts, especially in terms of atmosphere and narrative. The universe is too vast to not come across inhabited alien worlds in crisis.

samus misteriously ends on a lively planet in a land called hyrule and now she has to get master sword and slay gannon to go back to space while Link, a quiet guy dressed in green wearing a charming talking hat called Ezlo, was found floating in the scraps of a spaceship and is qualified as the newest bounty hunter on samus' absence!!!!

@Gregor oh please it's not breaking any rules and it didn't become an image chaos(yet) I doubt it will be locked as it is harmless and fun!

In other words Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I don't understand the benefit of changing up the gameplay between the two. Metroid has always focused on unlinear exploration and progression. Zelda's modern formula is fairly linear, or at least it holds your hand a bit more.

Where do you get the idea that non-linearity is a focus of Metroid any more so than it is in Zelda?
