Personally I don't think SPM stands up in its own right very well either, even if they never named it as being from the paper series wouldn't have changed how I felt about it. I just didn't find it a lot of fun, wouldn't go so far as to put it on a top 10 list of the worst games I ever played, but after playing the game all the way through I honestly can't say there was a lot I enjoyed about it.

I liked SPM quite a bit. Definitely under-rated imo.

They made Super Paper Mario play just like the side scrolling Mario games, but with RPG elements, that's why they named it "Super Paper Mario" also the game was supposed to be on the gamecube, but since the gamecube was almost finished with, they ported it to the Wii, I guess they kept the rule "one per console" rule with this one, but overall, it's still a great game, just pretend it has nothing to do with the other games in gameplay, and also push that nostalgia to the side, because I have a "friend" who doesn't like this game because it plays nothing like the one on the N64.

I stopped reading the boring text in SPM after Chapter 2. That game can go jump into a hot fire.

I really liked SPM. It was a fun experience and it provided an interesting change of pace. I still like TTYD more, but I enjoyed SPM for what it was.

Yes but think super princess peach that game was so much fun( i am a guy and played it) that came out after luigis mansion and mario sunshine. Nintendo has changed some of their series like paper mario with super paper mario and paper mario sticker star. Yes they were different but great games and they have a luigis mansion 2 so i think they ignore us to prove to us different is good which it is. So i don't mind the change.

OBVIOUSLY,Ninty wants to make the Mario games "kiddy" so bratty little kids won't play it and it's real fans will.

Currently playing:Trine 2,Little Inferno

This. If there's one lesson in life, it's that you can't please everyone. There will always be those that will hate something no matter what. If they do get what they begged for, they'll find something to gripe about. As Reggie said, fans can be insatiable. Besides, Nintendo is a business, a fact that many fans keep forgetting. Playing the blame game will only result in losers on both sides.

The two recent NSMB games came out within months of each other and after a game from 2009 that didn't feel much different from a game from 2006.
Meanwhile, there was a six year time-span between Mario 64 and Sunshine (literally an entire generation) and there was an eight year time-span between Sticker Star and the Paper Mario game that everyone loved in Thousand Year Door. I'd assume many fans get irked by this because they're being given too much of the same comfort food at once, while what they crave isn't being delivered.

Just some food for thought. (Get it?)

at the risk of replying to sarcasm, Miyamoto has little to do with most modern Mario games.

Welp, you replied to sarcasm.
But in all seriousness, I heard something about him not liking the "Coin Block on Mario's head" idea....or maybe it was someone else working at Big N who said it.

The general "copy and pasting" of Mario seemed to have started in 2006 when New Super Mario Bros. for the DS came out, after The Thousand Year Door.

Can you think of a Mario game before 2006 that copy and pasted the main playstyles of other games?

New Super Mario Bros. was really only made to be a nostalgic so it make sense. I forget where but I read an article that made the very good point that NSMB was probably mostly accepted so widely because 2006 was a BAAAAD year for platformers and 2d platformers had slowly been losing relevance since 1996.
