In regards to the outbreak going across the globe, I have doubts that I would need to sanitize everything I touch with disinfecting wipes. According to a few reports on the web, you can clean your phone with disinfecting wipes (ones that are listed to clear human Coronavirus, such as Clorox disinfecting wipes), but can you safely use them to clean your electronics, such as game discs, game cases, amiibo, remotes anything you touch? I want to be able to clean anything that's able to prevent the spread of the virus without looking for specific equipment or supplies.

One thing I think we also need to look out for is the outbreak of xenophobia. Don't forget your fellow human, don't wish ill on others, and don't shun others because of their appearance. Just saw the moron that did a 10 minute rant towards a woman because she was Asian American (Thai-American to be precise) and not only was every thing he said absolute bs and ignorant, he literally made this woman's ride home uncomfortable and unsafe. We are all human, no matter what our skin color or facial features. Hatred is never ok.

I appreciate your concern for mankind, but I fail to see where this pertains to the topic of the website.

I mean, I’ve got no reason to believe that disinfecting wipes would somehow short-circuit amiibos, and I imagine they’d be fine with all the other things mentioned, but I think the most important thing to disinfect is probably your own hands as you’ll be the primary person touching these things. I know alcohol sanitisers are running a bit low in some places, but giving them a thorough scrub with warm water and soap appears to be the official advice.

@KingBowser So long as you use wipes that don't have a lot of moisture it should be fine. A quick Google search suggests Lysol wipes for this purpose. Just avoid sprays. And I don't think I even need to mention it but - don't dunk your electronics in anything. Ever.

@DAHstroy Thus in the "general discussion" forum. Look at the other topics in this forum - the whole idea is that this is basically the dumping ground for "everything else".

Stop listening to the media and people on the web. The Coronavirus isn't the bubonic plague, for you need to clean everything with wipes.

@Tasuki 114,000 people as of yesterday likely disagree with you. The virus isn't the end of the world and I do think the media is over-reacting. But treating it like a non-issue is almost as bad as spreading panic. Panic is a problem but caution is laudable.

@Tasuki With Italy locking down the entire country, cancelling major sporting events and playing Serie A games behind closed doors, it's clear this is slightly more than media scare mongering. I reckon by the end of this week or next, many more countries will be following Italy's lead. Forced quarantine, shortage of food and supplies and a possible global recession are all a very real threat as things stand just now.

There is still only a slim chance you could become a carrier, but it is something that could impact your work, school, and travel plans far into the future. I underestimated it at first, but it already has transmitted further than most could’ve predicted.

Be careful out there.

Part of the issue with Covid19 is that it's not terribly lethal but it is extremely contagious, remains dangerous for days on a surface, and people generally don't even realize they've been exposed for at least a couple of days even though you can spread it before you feel any symptoms.

As much as I have joked in this manner - it's not the end of the world. But it is a serious issue and shouldn't be brushed off any more. There's been something like 4 - 5 thousand new infections globally each day.

This is probably the last word that need be said on the matter, but yes, mocking those taking sanitary precautions is counterproductive. Even if you think someone is being a bit over-cautious, other people being cleaner doesn’t hurt you.

You have to take a pretty myopic view of things to not see the global impact the virus has already had, with nationwide school closures issued in certain countries, many cities in lockdown, manufacturing chains brought to a standstill, and a deeply shaken global economy.

The end of the world this is not, but at least let people use wipe things down with some disinfectant if it makes them feel better.

There is, believe it or not, a middle ground between sanctimoniously sticking your head in the sand in order to ignore a dangerous pandemic (thanks for the demonstration, @Tasuki) and panicking to the degree that you upend your daily life as a result. It's not the end of the world, but it IS a very serious situation. One that could potentially lead to millions of deaths (the flu kills hundreds of thousands of people worldwide every year, and this thing's mortality rate is... what, twenty times higher? That should scare people).

In general:

  • You should probably try to avoid any unnecessary traveling or vacationing at the moment. People feeling the need to move about is what's helping to spread this thing.
  • Avoid crowds if possible.
  • There's no need to disinfect everything. If it has saturated your environment to that degree, then you WILL get it. Just wash your hands frequently and stay clear of people who seem to be sick.
  • Make sure you have emergency stores of basic necessities, but you don't need to buy 1000 rolls of toilet paper and 100 bottles of hand sanitizer.

There's obviously no containing the virus at this point, so the best thing to do is to lay low for a while and try not to contribute to its rapid spread. Slowing the transmission of the disease will buy time for many vulnerable people who can't afford to contract it, and will also help to not bog down local medical facilities in smaller communities.

And, yeah, it should probably go without saying, but... uh... try not to yell at any asian people. And you can still eat Chinese food.

It’s funny to think about, most of the asian people living in America (the entire continent) have probably been to China as many times as I have. Which is 0.

Anyway, yes, just wash your hands regularly, and avoid unnecessary direct contact with large amounts of people. Also try not to touch your face when you’re out and about.

I don't think it's fair to blame anyone for the virus unless they knowingly got themselves exposed and knowingly went into public exposing others. Viruses don't distinguish between race.

I did read about one person who did just that though. They were told to stay in quarantine and ignored that directive and went to some kind of business meeting and exposed everyone else at the meeting. Far as I'm concerned that should be criminal.

The worst thing of all is the panic. Some people are so gullible that if someone cough near them they start screaming. Yesterday there was such case in our subway. And we have only 4 people with Corona in our country and they not even in our city.

Well, four confirmed cases. Many people don't get themselves tested, or aren't able to get tested.

Octane

Zuljaras

@Octane Well they "confirmed" that they tested the people they had contact with and the test were negative. But you can't believe the medias or the government at 100%.

Also as I read the virus is deadly to old people and to people with chronical diseases. If I am not mistaken the mortality rate of young-middle aged people is very low.

It does worry me how much people are overreacting to The Great Plague.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

There are already 19 Corona virus victims in my country Indonesia.
