Well, as the title of this thread suggest, it is dedicated to the discussion of all of the above and as such I'd like to share this magnificent trailer with you all.

But with the other two, does talk of Zelda count? :3

Of course my friend. Zelda always counts, in fact The Legend of Zelda is just as epically good as Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' in my opinion.

Looks great! And it has Sean Bean in it who was great in Lord of The Rings.

ANother fantasy series made into a movie that they will probably never finish. Need I reminded anyone of Eregon and Golden Compass?

Personally I am tired of the movies based off of the first book in the series bombing and than leaving a huge cliff hanger and never finishing the movies series.

Cool. I'm currently half way through the second book of this series and it is fantastic. I'm not a lover of fantasy books in general (barring LOTR of course!) but this series is amazing.Very adult and just a hint of fantasy/magic makes a very refreshing change to the usual fantasy fare. Main characters die , no one is truly evil/good just many shades of grey. I reccomend these books (A song of Fire and Ice by George R R Martin) to all lovers of fantasy and good literature in general. Looking forward to the series but there is no way in my mind that it could live up to the books if only for the fact that so much detail will need to be cut, still looks pretty good though and who doesn't love Sean (Ah Luv ya) Bean?

What's this bit for again?

It is an awesome series with all kinds of twists and turns. Unfortunately, George Martin isn't a very prolific author when it comes to this particular series. His fans have been waiting on the next book in the series for what seems like a 100 years (it might actually be closer to 99 years).

I to am frustrated with Hollywood for not finishing Eragon: The Inheritance Trilogy, The Dark is Rising, and His Dark Materials although the movies had a great reception around the world. The fact of the matter is that Hollywood is looking for the "next Harry Potter" and they aren't having the best of fortune in finding it.

Yet, we have to admit that Hollywood is doing a nice job with Narnia and The Twilight Saga as they are continuing to adapt every book in those two franchises. Hollywood also plans to adapt all of the How To Train Your Dragon books into movies as well and I just read today that Disney plans to adapt the famed "Discworld" series into animated movies as well and I'm quite excited about that. I just downloaded a sample of Discworld The Color of Magic to my iPod Touch and I'm enjoying it.

A Game of Thrones is going to be epic. It will be coming out as a series on HBO next month, and they do a great job with their shows. The books as well as the show are definitely very adult, so don't say I didn't warn you, but they are awesome, and I'm really excited about HBO getting their hands on it.

I dunno if it counts, but I don't care. This weekend I'll be watching Record of Lodoss Wars, which is based on a series of novels that are based on a Japanese Table Top game that's very similar to Dungeons & Dragons. I'm hoping it'll be awesome, even though I don't normally care for High Fantasy. I've been watching too much sci-fi lately, so I could use a change of pace.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh great. Another fantasy movie where Sean Bean dies - Ned Stark? Really?

Anyway. A Game of Thrones is a reasonable book. Nothing more. I thought it was written by a teenager when I originally read it - it's an unnecessarily messy series with too many plot strands, filled with cliche after cliche. All Martin did was take a bunch of medieval cultures and misrepresent them fictionally.

That said, HBO make good productions, and in the hands of a talented scriptwriter, I see this series as being able to fix all of Martin's mistakes.

And on another note it's about time someone made a film of Magician. Raymond E Feist is a one trick pony, but man, what a trick.

you contrarian you. that's the first negative word I've heard about the series. It's actually praised for it's depth and for breaking the mold. I guess I would direct anyone interested to the thoughtful reviews on amazon.

Although if it wasnt for Fox Narnia almost ended with Prince Caspian when Disney dropped out from doing the rest. Still if they are going to make a book series into a movie series they should have signed deals for all the books not just one then we wont have the problem like Golden Compass or Eregon. I dont know about Twilight since I refuse to read or watch that trash. so I cant give an opinion on those movies. Speaking of book series anyone see that movie a few years ago called Inkheart I read somewhere that Brendan Fraiser was contracted to star in the other two parts of that series.

Really? I know plenty of people who found Game of Thrones to be unweildy at best.

It's not terrible - as I said. It's just not brilliant in the same vein of a CS Lewis or Tolkien. I don't think Game of Thrones will still be in mass production 50 or 100 years after Martin passes away.

Of course, I could be wrong! And if you're interested in the series, you're going to read it regardless of what I say. I often find myself playing Devil's advocate

well that's true but people will be doomed to a lifetime of disappointment if they always compare their books to Tolkien. Then again Time magazine did call him the American Tolkien for what it's worth. But Martin truly crafted some really multi-dimensional characters (not just good and evil you know) and that's probably his biggest success, and he dreamed up a very compelling world which could really only be handled over the length of (hopefully) a long running series on TV. A movie wouldn't stand a chance. HBO is really the perfect place for it. and another 1000 pages are coming this July! haha

The only high fantasy books I ever got into was the Redwall series, and I can't for the life of me remember why. I think I loved the action and the world. I was a huge furry growing up.

I'd rally like to see a film or tv series based around RA Salvatore's Drizzt Do Urden. The books are action heavy, which would make Hollywood happy, and the character is interesting, if pulpy

After the horrible two D & D movies, they owe us a good movie X(

Actually there were three. Two live action ones and the cartoon based on the Dragonlance series.
