@faint That has my vote but it'd probably hurt not having as much competition.

Put All ps4 games on Switch ?
Oh, yes.
So I can play Earthlock, Overcooked, Portal Knights, World of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5, FF X/X-2, FF XII, The Sims 4 on Switch. And I don't need to buy ps4 to play those games.

I see people bring this up quite frequently and I just don't get it.. So you want all of Nintendo's games, but you're not willing to buy Nintendo's hardware? I mean, I would love to play Sly Cooper, Killzone and a few other Playstation exclusives on Nintendo, but I just buy PlayStation for that. I know, spending more money on top of your primary platform to buy exclusive products might suck, but that's just how it works. In the long run, its better because gaming is one industry that NEEDS competition.

You are being ridiculous. Putting aside the fact that EA produces software, not hardware (which is why they don't produce a console), EA raked in over $1.1 Billion in net (not gross) income in 2016, with assets valued at over $7 Billion. Yep, real poor.

@Octane you make a good point however if they truly wanted to maximise profits they would make their consoles stand out as much as they could and pull in a larger market by releasing their games on other ports

Name one example where this worked.

Now I will list many examples of why this would not make sense:

1. McDonald's wouldn't make their food in rival restaurants.
2. Toyota wouldn't sell their cars in a Honda dealership.
3. Costco wouldn't give out their perks in a Sam's Club.

You gotta give reasons for a consumer to come to you, not a competitor. If Nintendo releases their games on other consoles, people wouldn't bother buying Nintendo's console. The main reason the Switch sells well is because it's the only console that plays Nintendo games at the moment. Sure Nintendo releases some mobile games, but those games are specifically for mobile and will do a better job at attracting new consumers rather than simply porting their games to other consoles.

Now for a relevant example:

Aside from Minecraft, Microsoft and Sony don't sell their games on other consoles. Playstation and Xbox also thrive from having unique exclusives. They sure didn't sell from some of the crap Microsoft tried to sell, i.e. Kinect and TV everything.

That basically boils down to "I want to play all these great Nintendo games, but I don't want to have to buy a Nintendo console", and that argument doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Exclusives aren't going anywhere. It would make zero financial sense for Nintendo to make their exclusives available on rival consoles, in the same way that the Switch isn't going to be getting Halo or Uncharted.

I think that we should have Nintendo games on lots more ports than just the nintendo consoles. I feel that they should bring their games to pc, xbox, playstation and more to access a larger market. The reason for this is if your like me you don't want to spend upwards of £300 just to get a console with not very many games on it so we have can play our beloved pokemon, legend of zelda, mario and more on our PC's, Xbox's and Playstation's

Yes and I'd like to have a PS4 but really I don't like the idea that I have to spend money to get one so will you give your PS4 to me for free? I really think that I should have a PS4 but I don't like it enough to invest money on it but really I feel you should give me one thanks.

It's pointless to respond a player who want Nintendo games on ALL Machines.
It's like I want Burger King burgers from Mc Donald or SHARP AquosTv from Toshiba dealer.

If you wish Nintendo games on ALL Machines, that means:
1. Keep on dreaming !
2. You can destroy a whole Game Business.
3. You wish for something Unreal.
Sorry, mate. Better you bury your Unrealistic dream. It Will NEVER EVER Happened. It will NOT Boost the sales for Nintendo, It will DESTROY their sales and bye bye Nintendo, bye bye your unrealistic wish forever.
If you think PC is the Best of all, don't be too greedy and naive. And you still insist to think "emulation is good". Sorry, mate. Open your mind.

As I said in another thread, it would make sense only if all three main manufacturers (Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo) stopped making consoles that play only their respective games/formats. Having different manufactures that make different hardware that play different formats of the SAME games is just a waste of time and money for both the consumers and the developers who make the games.

Having multiple systems, each with a different format and slightly different adaptations of the same games is something we inherited from the console market of the 80s - the dawn of videogames. There's no reason to have such an archaic market today. Just imagine if the three big music labels in the world (Sony, Universal and Warner) released records of their artists that you can only listen to on their own machines - forcing you to buy three different CD players to play the music of the artists you like.

Or three different DVD players to watch all the films you like.
Or three different TVs to watch all the channels you like.
We are so knees deep into this that we don't realise how stupid it is.

Octane

@spizzamarozzi Except that first party games are usually way better than anything else the market has to offer. So I don't know the exact reasons, but it works and I'm fine with that.

@spizzamarozzi music and videos are played using universal standards, if you build a system that have to play it it must play anything you put into it it cannot even recognize what's the difference between System of a down and Miley Cyrus.
Programs have to stick to a specific standard to run and obviously console producers try to keep it and their systems as well as close and inaccessible as possible.
I know there are different file formats for documents too, but people who creates music and movies don't need to be into informatics as much as people who write programs, often they are not into it at all, and I think it is because of that that eventually universal standards for documents type of data were established, because nobody involved had any interest in the business of the players, everybody wanted only to sell as much as they could. But when it comes to programs/games, developers back then were involved into the production of consoles too so their interests were different and they ended up being competitive with the hardware too because of that

Yeah yeah but all of these rules were established 40 years ago when the videogame market was in its prehistoric state. Rules that there's not much sense abiding anymore, especially to get what? A handful of exclusives a year?!

I mean, PCs and Android phones are already functional prototypes of unified systems. They seem to be doing rather well, especially PCs. The only drawback is that for most people they are not user-friendly to use. Would that be so hard to apply the same concept to a console that you can go out, buy and plug to the telly, and it'll last you six or seven years?!

Just imagine, how cool it would be if you could just hope that your favourite company released a game without worrying if it'll come out for a system you already have or you'll have to go out and buy another machine!! Sometimes when I'm on my own I sit and think "I hope Neil Young releases a new record soon!!" - I don't think "I hope Neil Young ports his new record to my Marantz player, otherwise I would have to go out and buy another CD player".

All the focus would be on content - and gamers won't have to spend €1000 each generation on hardware alone, thus having more money to buy games, thus supporting the people they really adore: the developers (because I don't think you adore the chinese slaves who assemble the hardware at Foxconn).

I know it sounds too good to be true so the Nintendo Puritans will hate it because videogames and pain should never be separate , but this is actually something we should strive for. It would make the industry and games so much better.
