@tendoboy: i'm saying that if it bothers you so much, go focus on something else. Cleverbot is there for entertainment purposes, and if you're not being entertained, there's a bazillion other things you could be doing.
Chatbots may have been around since AOL, but they never responded directly to questions the way Cleverbot does. Most of the chatbots use canned sentences or phrases. Cleverbot seems to know what you are talking about, which is why I believe it's run by humans

A computer program is more intelligent than Tendoboy. It tricked him into thinking its real!? It is indeed a CleverBot!

It's not a computer program. It's just a bunch of humans pretending to be an "AI" program. They switch people every few minutes to keep the conversation random.

CleverBot has to be real, somewhat. It's sentences aren't very well put together sometimes. It changes the subject randomly. It doesn't always understand the question. Forgets the previous conversation you had with it a few seconds ago. Replies to a question with a question.
It's very clever, but it can't hold a sentence and its questions are kinda weird too. It's just taking normal human questions, answers, insults, faces etc. and fitting them into the conversation where applicable.
And Tendoboy, if it's annoying you so much, why bother with it? It's obviously real to some extent.
EDIT: Dude... it's really straightforward programming. It copies and pastes words, questions, answers, replies and whatever into it's databanks that it gets from humans that use it. If it's asked a similar question it goes with the closest answer it has and adds a bit more.
If it gets a question or answer it doesn't understand it takes that to use for another person, therefore the random conversation changes.
It's a bot. A bot that re-uses statements received from other users. A bot with a dab of artificial intelligence. Like, do you know how many people use this thing? I used it tonight; over 1100 were talking too. Do you know how much its memory expands with statements in a single night? You can tell it's still a bot by how it responds by its sudden random statements and incorrect answers at times, as it can't respond correctly to everything; every statement a single user types will differ, and Cleverbot can only generate and match a response to a certain extent of accuracy. The luck that it just answers correctly and cleverly often is just part of its intelligent memory on previous responses.
Basically what GameLord said. It's got 1000+ conversations going on at one time. With each of those conversations it's expanding its knowledge, vocabulary and sentence structure. Each time it gets a new response, it learns and adapts to that particular response. However the random conversation changes are just where it's confused with what you just said or asked, rather than giving a stupid or illogical answer it moves on and learns from that response.
It's like the robot in The Incredibles. "The more time you spend with it, the smarter it becomes."
