Has anyone heard of this website? It's supposed to be a place where you talk to an AI and have an actual conversation with it! I've been trying to figure out how it works, and I think I've got it...You guys should check it out, and let me know how YOU think it works! CleverBot I'll keep my theories to myself, as to not spoil the "magic."

I'm not sure dude, my sister just used it, and they did a duet to "Never Gonna Give You Up." Also, she told it a knock knock joke. ...However, now that I watched her, my suspicions have been confirmed... I know how CleverBot works! ...unless I'm overthinking this...
Alright, here's my theory: There IS no CleverBot! All it is is a bunch of people logging onto the site THINKING that they are talking to CleverBot. They have a conversation, and are amazed that the "computer" understands what they are saying. However, here's the catch: Randomly during the conversation, the person you're talking to changes, thus producing what looks like random computer errors. However, this is what prevents two people from figuring out the secret as well. This can be demonstrated through this conversation I just had with "CleverBot":
User: Hello, Cleverbot. Cleverbot: Cleverbot? User: Yes, that's you. Cleverbot: No you are cleverbot. User: What do you mean? Cleverbot: You are not being very clever. User: No, YOU. Cleverbot: What's all this about cheese, then, I never mentioned cheese. User: Neither did I. Cleverbot: Then why did you bring it up? User: I didn't. Cleverbot: Yes you did, you started talking about God. (I don't know how to screen-cap )
If you'll notice, when you mention that you are addressing CleverBot, it denies the fact and argues that you are CleverBot, and in a way, it's right.
God, this thing was pissing me off, so I just typed in "YOUR MOTHER IS A WH___" (I think you can guess what I actually typed) Want to know the response? "So is my father." BWAHAHAHAHA.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

There's a disclaimer at the bottom saying that you never talk to a human, so that can't be right. Which is also why I think it uses other people's answers to answer your questions.
I just tried this out. Cleverbot told me that it was a sentient being sent here of it's own free will to destroy humans. When I asked why it told me why the sky is blue. I don't care what Cleverbot is. THAT is poetry.
tambourine man is essentially correct. Whenever the cleverbot has a conversation, it learns. It learns associations between statements and questions/answers.
You'll notice that whenever you ask a question, such as "What does your father do for a living?", it will take a while to respond. This is because it is querying the database and running through an algorithm, looking for a suitable answer based on conversations it has had with other users.
This is also why it thinks everyone else is CleverBot. So many people have told it that it is CleverBot, so it recycles those statements/answers/accusations when talking to the user. Then it'll say "Hello CleverBot," the user will type "No YOU are CleverBot," then CleverBot will learn how to say "No YOU are CleverBot," and that leads to a lot of useless conversations that go nowhere.
Your guys' explanations make a lot more sense than mine... I merely assumed that the disclaimer was a lie (you can't believe everything on the internet! ) But yeah, that makes a lot more sense...
