@WingedFish - This is a cool thread. It will be interesting to see these epicly named chickens grow up. If you're still looking for names Zelda and Cucco might be good.
@WingedFish: The one on the far right in your photo (the one you pointed out) seems to have a puff of light-colored feathers on its head. I was trying to say that since it's a blonde (and doesn't have dark feathers on its head... Lucina has dark blue hair, after all) it should be Lissa. but it's your bird, so it's whatev' :3

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
Day 2
Lucina is looking at the camera on the right. In the very back between the black and cinnamon-colored chicks is Peach (she kinda blends into the wood shavings). Viridi is in the middle, she's the one who'll lay the green (or blue) eggs. I hope she'll lay green eggs, so her name will actually fit. The rest are still awaiting names, which will be figured out in due time.
Today they've had their first taste of the outside world, in the form of a handful of dirt (to build up immune system response). Yay for progress!

I really want a pet chicken, I can see us now... Me going down the street wearing sunglasses and my chicken perched on my head wearing little chicken sunglasses, with the chicken bobbing its head to the beat of the funky music coming from the huge radio that is on the back of the skateboard that we're both riding. Yeeeeeeaaaahhhh. I don't even know how to skateboard, but as you could see, this would be a really awesome chicken, he/she would teach me how.
I live in a suburban area, but there's this farm near my house which is pretty much the only working farm in the city. It's fun to go there and just walk around and see the animals, once I even discovered that one of the goats acts like a dog, coming right up to the gate for pettings. But getting back on topic, there is (was?) a Polish rooster there that I called Fred. Unlike the other chickens who stayed in the coop, Fred wasn't about that life. He would just walk around as he pleased and wasn't even scared of humans. I haven't seen him in a while, though... sniff (but then again I only go about twice a year)
Note: The chicks were only in this box for a few minutes while I changed the bedding in their brooder, and I figured I take a picture without the red light on them so you can see their true colors, literally.
Bottom left corner: Viridi.
Center: Peach.
To Peach's upper right: Lucina.
Bottom right corner: Zelda.
As you can see, half of the flock now have names.
They were quite happy to be back under the warmth.
On a developmental note their wing feathers are starting to come in. You can see the black and white barred pattern on Zelda's wing which she'll have throughout the body come adulthood. Enjoy their cute stage, because within a week they'll go into the awkward "teenage" stage where they have a mix of both baby down (the fluffy stuff) and adult feathers, which makes them look ridiculous.

from my experience that is how chicken/roosters behave like when they are born in freedom. like many other animals btw
Oh, how cute! I also notice that some of them have patterns on their down; do they retain them as they grow older?
Yes and no. Some colors such as the black on several of them for example, will transfer to the adult feathering; while other patterns, such as the white on Lucina's body (not including her crest) will disappear.
