ALSO the solution does solve the problem, a game like that would command attention and top the app store
No it doesn't. At all. You're asking Nintendo to make Pokemon incredibly complicated for anyone who doesn't have the attention span to do such things. Nintendo purposely made Pokemon simple because of the audience it is aimed at. Also, do you have any idea how long this would take to develop and how big the game is? There is literally NO logical business model that fits in this mess of a game you created.
Going back to your original point, how does THIS help those people with short attention spans? You're asking them to play for hours just to get to the first gym. Does that not defeat the whole purpose of said idea?
You're also asking Nintendo to charge for tournaments? Really? Why even bother when gamers can do it for free in Pokemon X and Y?
Nintendo does NOT need to complicate Pokemon. The series was never meant to be too complicated (aside from IV/EV, but even those were simplified in X and Y). In conclusion, this is an awful idea that will not work.
there is nothing complicated its like playing pokemon just against other people. its no different than nintendogs, the gts, and a gps. while development would be taxing its pay off would be well worth it. not to mention it is barely two steps up from x y . you already catch different pokemon at night and day on mountains or near the water etc the only difference is transferring that to a real map. i do it a work alll the time its basic sectoring and coordinate entering using a gps as a ping off of cell phone towers. like any other game that enables your location service. takes 1-2years to work out the kinks. the rest of the game just needs fresh artwork and fine tuning. its a 4 year game at most
Edit: You are literally making no sense at this point. PC can't do FPS? FPS saved consoles? Look at what happened to Sony when Gameboy was released? Bungie going toconsole wasbecause consoleis betterand not Microsoft saying 'we bought you and now we need this huge game to make our console a success'? What?
name one fps that pc gaming did well. and yes playstation was the top selling console sony had things going well. until nintendo started the gaming oon the go first the gameboy then the color than the advance and so on. then sony scrambled out the psp which saved them .

PlayStation wasn't anywhere near out when the Game Boy launched. Go take a look at Wikipedia for a while. And make sure you don't edit it.
Look up PC first-person shooters while you're at it.

I officially deem this a troll thread after reading that.
Almost every FPS is better on PC. Half Life, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, Unreal, COD, Battlefield, all better on PC. PSP far from saved Sony and the Gameboy line was out long before the Playstation. You do know Playstation first started as a SNES CD add - on until Nintendo have Sony the bird and made the biggest mistake they ever made?
Either your gaming knowledge severely lacks or you trolling? Which is it?

You didn't address my other points though. What would Nintendo gain from an endeavor like this? This is one heck of a risky game that you are asking for. The amount of programming would be phenomenal for a program like this. There is literally no reason they should do this when a simpler Pokemon game will be just as successful.

Despite your mistakes in gaming history, and despite the fact that I'm not worried about the industry like you are, I'm not going to pile on your idea like everyone. I like the vague idea of a pokemon trainer game on the smartphone. The pokemon you can catch can be specifically based on GPS coordinates from across the globe. You train them and battle others from across the globe. A smartphone would be a great platform because there are so many in circulation. It would probably be most successful as a free app. Of course we all know Nintendo's stance on smartphones so don't count on it. But it's not a bad idea. And it would make a boat load of money.

You are not quite sane are you? The people who are willing to drop €35-50(there are apps that even go for this much?) on a pokemon game probably already have a nintendo handheld anyway so yeah.
i mean lets face it the day of console gaming is done. in a year the wii u will only be good for netflix and brawl. with the occasional mario players.
and nintendo cant even come out with a decent emulator to the mobile marketplace.
What I'm saying is that you shouldn't bother to try and wrap this up as a solution to Nintendo's struggling sales, because you're not fooling anyone. We know you don't really care about that. You don't care to understand the real problem here or Nintendo's business strategy. You just want a Pokemon game on your phone. This thread would have worked better if you came right out of the gates and said that.
"Hey guys, I have this idea for Pokemon games on mobile, would any of you be interested in this?"
At any rate, you should provide a source for your assertion that the console market is failing, because analysts would tend to disagree and there's no strong evidence that it is.

That would actually work.
Not as a full blown pokemon game, but a mini trainer pet-sim of sorts with a pokemon generated using your ip address/wireless settings/location (like with the denpa men), add non-intrusive in-app purchases and social media integration and it can be free to play.
Not to mention that nintendo does not own pokemon and they can do these kinds of small phone games if they wish to. And they have done them before.
I'm pretty sure Pokemon is doing just fine on the console(s) it's already on — it's a solid and proven system seller. X and Y were wonderful, and the dual-screen configuration was a lot of fun for the minigame stuff. I don't see Nintendo going through with something like this when what they've already got works just fine — why fix what isn't broken?

Mobile and the like is a fairly lost cause for most actual substantial gaming (or for finding it in a sea of garbage of disgusting, greedy awfulness) so I wouldn't bother in the first place,
This is a terrible idea and I'm pretty sure Nintendo and GameFreak know what they are doing seeing as Pokemon X and Y have sold over 10 million copies since launch less than 6 months ago.
Edit: This sums up Pokemon's affect on Nintendo's finances
