Is there any kind of site where I can download music for free, but legally? (And straight to my computer?)

@Toon there is one thats legal but I have not checked in sometime its called Qtrax and is legal. Not sure if they got it all finished yet but if you have time you might check it out. I have provided the link.

Looks like its still in preview stage. Its ad supported just like say your internet browser when you go to sites are. The build of the engine if I remember right is based off the Firefox code as well. They have deals with record labels such as BMG and SONY. Here is the New York Post article from 2007 of the site.

finetune is a good place to stream too, plus you can play saved playlists on your Wii. It's got a nice wii-friendly interface, I'd recommend it to all users.

You could use some audio capture software if you really wanted to download what you are listening too, but I imagine that's illegal, just like downloading pirate stuff through torrent is.

Also, you could use Spotify. Iy has some advertising, but at least is a light weight desktop application. Also, there are some songs that there are only covers like Sex Bomb from Tom Jones.

I use Pandora for internet radio. It's pretty cool and will find songs it thinks you like based on your preferences. Youtube also has a really good selection of music videos you can stream.

Edit: @Machu
I'm not sure about the legality of using audio capturing software in that manner. I know it wasn't illegal back in the day to make mix tapes recording from the radio as long as it was for personal use, so I wonder if that would fall under the same heading.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Heres a way to do it. Win an iTunes music card, and buy songs.

I heard owning illegal downloaded music is legal now in Austria.
Since owning an illegal copy like a burnt CD is allowed, as long as you keep it for private usage.

The Internet is a glimpse of how rude people will be in the future.

Well, if you like top 40 songs this week, then I don't know. But if you like indie music then check out the Newgrounds Audio Portal: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/
It has a huge selection of free music and even video game music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's all free. The music is posted by users, and it's not music like, "Boom Boom Pow" or "Poker Face", but more like a remix f the Super Mario Bros. Overworld Main Theme or "Ballad of the Mystical Ninja Wizard" (<there's actually a song called that, but I may of got the name wrong.)
