Aw, that's a cute book.
Currently: Cities of the Plain, by Cormac McCarthy

Is Cormac McCarthy any good? I mean, obviously you're a fan, but how accessible/ intelligent is the guy?
"count of monte cristo" is a great book, one of my favorites -- but I'm not the book expert, I just got into classic books the past year.
If it didn't go on wild long tangents about utterly unimportant things, if it had some kind of semblence of structure, and if it didn't star one of the most unlikable victims in the history of literature, then yes, it would be a good book.

Unfortunately, I'm finding it a horrible experience. The Three Musketeers was a far superior text.

Ramandus

How far along into the book are you? I don't remember the book like that at all, maybe the experience is different on the DS.

Currently: The Zombie Survival Guide (again)
Next: World War Z (again)

It's basically all I read, and once per year maybe Bilbo.

There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

I am currently reading 'The World According to Garp'

After that, I will probably do 'Knife of Dreams' - book 11 of the Wheel of Time series (presently on my third read throuugh of that, which is my favourite series)

I am even a sado that keeps a list of what he's read: http://thomas.bowskill.org/index.php?/archives/5-The-Reading-...

Holy crap! I'm the only person I know that has a "zombie survival/escape plan". My friends and co-workers think that's weird by the way so if you have one...it's best not to tell anyone. heh. That book sounds awesome! I'll have to check it out.

Currently: Nintendo Power (great toilet reading by the way!) No real books though at the moment.
Future: The Zombie Survival Guide (thanks Firkraag!)
Favorites: ANYTHING by H.P. Lovecraft and the Song of Ice and Fire series (by George R. R. Martin)

I don't think the forum likes you capitalizing "/quote." The Road and No Country for Old Men, his two most recent, are very accessible. The book I'm reading now is part of a trilogy that is much less so because at least half of the dialog is in Spanish (it takes place along and across the US border with Mexico) that is, much to some readers' annoyance, not translated, though I think the need to understand it all word for word is exaggerated (I took two semesters of Spanish in college and am certainly far from fluent). As for intelligent... well, obviously I think so. I don't like to read books by dumb people.

current: Let's Learn Katakana (a workbook really) and The Invertebrates: A Synthesis (university-level biology text on invertebrates, a primer before I tackle Arthropod Phylogeny and Evolution)
next: Probably a Star Trek Deep Space Nine novel like the Terok Nor series or The Never-Ending Sacrifice, which was just released.
favourite: Watership Down or 1984

Ooh, The Hobbit is fantastic!
Did you notice my very temporary avatar change? I informed you about it in the M&L vs. Scribble thread.

Ahh, I love the Hobbit, even more than the LOTR trilogy. I think it has more charm, and I like the characters more. I absolutely cannot wait for the back-to-back movies!

And, no I didn't, I'll go check that now, haha.

Firkraag

Agreed, it's called Bilbo in Sweden though. I have read that book too many times, LOTR has nothing on it.

I thought I was alone in thinking the Hobbit was better. I didn't like Lord of the Rings, but the Hobbit had a lot of charm and I prefer stand alone stories to sprawling, drawn out six-book stories. The trilogy was also much darker, which did not earn points with me. I don't like that kind of fantasy, but I should probably read the Hobbit again someday and see if it's become more or less enjoyable since 9th grade.

Only books I can really get into are Star Trek novels.I also pick up once in a while a Marvel Essentials book because they are cheap on eBay and Amazon. But, I do not read a whole lot anymore.
