@Grumblevolcano
Any insider info on black friday deals at GameStop (specifically the "Pre-Owned Games) ???
preferably Switch and 3DS games, I called my friend who works the store, but he's just a low level associate, was hoping someone on NL might know a Mgr or RM/DM

@redd214 Thanks for all the posts, kinda forget I made this thread until this mornings news article about the Target ad. CAG is my go to, this time of year their twitter feed is the first thing I look at on Sunday mornings. I need to go check out the spreadsheet myself.

@rjejr you're very welcome man. Another great person to follow on Twitter for deals is Wario64. Saved literally 100s of dollars last year. Over the weekend ended up getting 2 Amazon Echo dots for $1 a piece!!

Edit: here's another deal I posted in the ps4 thread may as well put it here too

Deal alert for anyone in the US who may have an older ps4 and wants a newer one. Gamestop right now is offering $175 trade in credit on any ps4 even the original 500gb + $25 bonus. They will be selling the Black Friday $200 spiderman 1TB Slim model starting on Sunday. So in essence you can trade in any old ps4 get Spiderman basically free, new warranty etc etc. Plan on going to trade in my older one tommorow!

@redd214 It's kinda weird that there's no price comparison site in the US. We have one for our country. It's updated pretty much in real time, with an active team keeping track of every single retailer in our country. It's easy to see what the cheapest options are, they list shipping fees, and even estimated delivery time. Users can leave comments notifying the team of upcoming sales, etc. It's works very well, and I use it every single time I purchase a game. Here's the page for Red Dead Redemption for example.

@redd214 Thanks for the Wario64 tip, I'll add him to the follow list. I'm actually looking at the CAG list right now and found the 1 game I was looking for, XC2, for $35 at Walmart. Dont' think I'd even go into a Walmart parking lot on BF, much less the store, I barely go there as it is, maybe once a year, but it gives me hope. I already had Pokemon Let's Go Eevee, SSBU and Yoshi Crafted World pre-ordered on Amazon form the waning days of the Prime 20% discount so I'm pretty good right now. Oh and my kid wants Super Mario Party, almost forgot, gotta find that one as well.

And Sony is doing their thing again this year w/ the two PS4 models, give away the Slim and make money on the Pro. W/ the news of the new & improved RDR2 bundle model innards I'm expecting them to merge the 2 next year ahead of the PS5, 3 models is too many, so Pro power in a Slim body for $249 once the PS5 drops. Whenever that is. I'm good w/ my Slim until PS5, still no 4k tv, wife wont' let me.

@rjejr we've gone to Walmart the last 3 or 4 years on BF and it's not as bad as many think if you do it intelligently. Going at the initial rush when they first open is suicide. We usually go at about 5 am and it's just like any other day. No craziness, no crowds just great deals. Another tip is stay away from the doorbusters i.e. the $250 60 4k inch tvs that everyone wants. Can really save a bunch on games/movies as well as household things like appliance etc.

I worked at HHgregg (was similar to bestbuy) for a couple years on BF and that's the advice I would always tell family members. Avoid the initial rush and go at an "off peak" time and avoid the being seduced by the ridiculously discounted doorbusters. Usually there are very few of them on hand and they're designed just to get people in the door.

@Octane Pretty sweet site, and you're right, I can't think of anything like it in the US, though maybe redd214 knows of something. There must be some law about "proprietary information" or some such. If not I'm sure Google would have something on it's "Shopping" search engine page. Or Amazon on it's own website.

I've been a CAG member since 2009, a year after NL, but they dont' have a layout like that. I should ask the guy running it why not, he would know.

@Octane yeah we don't have anything that comprehensive as far as I know. Really just comes down to checking the big places (Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Gamestop etc) and keeping up with sites like CAG. Going to there is one of my Sunday morning rituals to see if anything catches my eye as a great deal. Also a good way to make some gaming cash on the side, buy low sell high

redd214

Octane

@rjejr @redd214 That's another weird thing, the US is so big, but it seems like most people stick to just a handful of stores for their gaming purchases. Our population barely reaches 17 million, but there are dozens of different retailers, and a lot of small ones too. It would only make sense that a country as big as the US could potentially support hundreds of game stores and retailers. Yet many people always talk as if Amazon and GameStop are the only two options, and when they suck, digital is the only option left.

Octane

redd214

@Octane well that's not entirely true but no need to get in the weeds about it tho

Another one I just say Best Buy is doing any 2 labo kits for $99, $30-40 in savings. Offer goes until December 1st.

redd214

@Octane We don't do competition in the US, we do too big fail. Walmart killed all the small stores in the 80s, Amazon killed every one since then. Gamestop ate up a couple. And of course the hedge fund managers killed the toy stores. How does a toy store fail, there are millions of kids born every year in this country, you have a constantly renewing supply of customers. NY had FAO Schwarz, they had thousands of customers a day just in NYC tourists alone. Greed, that's how.

Amazon ate Walmart ate every one else. Every see Wall-E? That spaceship is full of Americans.

@rjejr 18? That's it lol. We're going to have about 30 this year, no excuses lol! I wake up at 430 every day so I'm used to it

redd214

@redd214 2 Labo kits you'd need to remodel your home and add on a room just to store them. I spent 5 hours building the piano yesterday, haven't' had time to use it yet, and it's big. My kids built 3/5 over the summer, we still need to make the house. I won't buy the vehicle kit for the same reason I wont' buy the robot, where do I put all of that stuff? And I own a single family 3 story home.

Two kits for $99 is a deal, but people should really start with one to see if they like it, and have the room for it, before buying another. I just saw them on twitter for $50 a couple of days ago, not sure which set it was. I do like Labo though, it was well worth the $60 or $70, whatever I paid for the variety kit.

@redd214 30? Well you can probably fit all of the Labo kits then. I max out sit down at about 22, though I can do buffet around 30, 50 if it's nice enough for the yard. I wake up every day at 6:45, unless I don't have to, then it's 8. I used to be a morning person then I got old. Or maybe just out of shape. Doing all of my shopping online doesn't get me much exercise.

redd214

@rjejr well about half are kids under 12, they don't take up too much space lol. We have the Variety and vehicle kits but don't think the take up a while lot of shelf space tbh. Really enjoyed them as well!

@redd214: I tend to stay away from the really cheap doorbuster deals on a lot of electronics. Typically the deals are either for older models or are for poorly specced machines that they're trying to get rid of. Though I suppose a $100 Celeron laptop isn't a bad option for someone who just surfs the internet and checks email lol.

@Octane: As mentioned, a lot of the smaller shops have been eaten up by the sheer convenience of shopping online and by big retailers who can afford to cut things down to ridiculous prices. The only store around my immediate area that specializes in games is ye olde GameStop. There have been a couple of shops that sell used retro games as part of their business, but these usually aren't anything to write home about.

Too, a lot of the store variety (as you'd expect) over here occurs in cities. Some of the more rural population will drive to those cities of course, but ordering online saves time when the alternative is a four-hour round trip and sinking a full day into shopping, dealing with people, waiting in lines, and wondering why that crazy car three lanes away is blaring Justin Bieber in this traffic jam.

Tl;Dr - There are too many big guys putting pressure on the little guys, and the US is sometimes spread too far apart for its own good.
