What are some of your attitudes to bias by game reviewers - from you point of view - or your own biases? I do not read all of these magazines or sites regularily, some hardly atl all, but over time I do have impressions of them - what are yours? Be interesting to see how we all see things differently perhaps? (does not have to relate to any specific console, but it could, whichever)

IGN - I despise IGN. I really think they want the Wii to be a XBOX 360, and they hype and dump on games accordingly. I just do not relate to them. Reviews are over long and over written, and highly predictable. Want to save wii from itself...

1uP - I think they are pretty fair, overall, on all games. I do not care for their fratboy community, but I do feel they are pretty professional most of the time, though their Mario Kart Wii review was idiotic on all fronts.

Gamespot - I think they are too scientific - I rarely get a sense if they enjoyed a game. They place a lot of emphasis on story, so I think they are biased heavily to that. I do not care for them

Nintendo Power - I think they are some real fanboys, and they overrate things like Smash Bros. Did not bother to review Wii Fit or Wii Music, I think, that irritates me big time. Write very short, poor and generic wiiware reviews, like they are lesser games, that annoys me especially given the general state of dreck and license whoring they review on the wii disc channel...oddly seem to be bigger SEGA fanboys than anything else, I say they are in general IGN wannabees.

Game Informer - I think these guys flat out suck, basicaly PC type games or get the hell out.

Nintendo Life - maybe on average a little too kind to games, but at the same time I think the reviewers review the game with intended goals and audience in mind, so that is cool. I would rip you if I felt you needed it, but you are my best site for wiiware reviews and I do appreciate that. (not kissing up...)

I really do not rely on game reviews at all (except for download only games), I like community discussion a lot more, and if you are familiar with past projects from game makers, you pretty well know what to expect, good or bad....

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

The only bias I really notice is Gamespot and Nintendo Power, but they do point out the negatives and positives about a Nintendo game respectively. Honestly, I rely on a collection of player's reviews rather than a handful of "critic's" reviews

Wait, isn't Nintendo power owned by Nintendo? Why the heck would you listen to their reviews?

Only reviews I can really trust are from kotaku http://kotaku.com/tag/review/ they are short, to the point and does not rely on a number to do their talking for them. And to this day i've yet to find anything biased about them.

Gamespot is pretty bias and unfair. Nintendolife really is on my good side due to the reviews always seem to agree with my tastes, and they really think of how they're audience will think of their game, and really seem to enjoy playing the games (or not, depends ) Especially Corbie's reviews, they are my favorite, and im not saying that because of that gold plaque next to that menacing skeleton!

Nintendo Power and Nintendo Life are two sources I trust. The others you just have to decide for yourself whether to believe what they say is true.

Everyone is biased. Every website or magazine is run by humans and there will always be some human bias, including Nintendo Life.

Bias is pretty much why I like Metacritic -- since that site collects reviews and information from multiple gaming sites and magazines, I can click one page and have everything laid out in front of me, including links to full reviews if I want to really see what they had to say instead of just relying on the numbers to do the talking. Since bias depends on the reviewer and the publication/website, it's nice to have an average, and the user reviews are nice too (that way actual gamers can refute a poor review or score if they feel it necessary).

@The Fox: i'm wanting to say Nintendo Power is no longer published by Nintendo, though you're right -- any review of a game by a related publication should really be taken with a grain of salt.

Yes, it is. Future US just publishes it now. I want my freebies again!

IGNorant is a fairly biased site because they do want the Wii to be a 360. They hype the Conduit and almost ignore LKS, etc.

Gamespot....I wouldn't call biased but rather they don't actually like anything.

Nintendo Power makes me lolz with their articles

NintendoLife is the ultimate review site for Nintendo fans. They rate each game according to their mostly Nintendo-only audience, which is a rarity on the net. However, they are far too nice on far too many games, giving 9s to games that aren't "amazing." A 9 is a special score, but it is commonplace on NintendoLife. NintendoLife needs to be like they were on WWW, where number scores were fairer, and everyone was in shock when a game got the much coveted 9. They even rate a few unworthy games 10s cough*Picross DS*cough. However, number scores aside, the reviews themselves are very trustworthy with information, and the community is one of the best.

Though, if I could make a suggestion, I think making AlexSays a "second-opinion" reviewer would allow for a moreinteresting and better article.

I like Nintendo Life because it's independent and gamers always talk about what they like and dislike in the forums

@Sean: Agreed, but there's a lot more than just that game.

Bahamut_ZERO

LzWinky

Bahamut, a lot more people than IGN wish the Wii was more like the 360, but that's like comparing apples to oranges. They're just too different from each other.

I suppose, but like I said, I'd rather listen to the overall population than a handful of critics.

Besides, the most biased reviews I've ever seen are on Amazon.com. Just read most of the one-star reviews.
