Because the First Turok was actually good. In fact, the first Turok was pretty much the only game in the series that was good.

Best (in recent memory): Geist. Just got it the other day, and i am addicted. strongly reminiscent of the Prime series... which is NEVER a bad thing.

Worst: Turok (Evolution, i believe... for the GC). pretty much a "bleh" FPS with a horrid framerate, ugly graphics, and a camera that literally made me puke from nausea. i haven't the foggiest why the series is so praised.

I never liked Turok. I never got very far into it because I thought the controls were so bad. Turok Evolution was one of the first games I had for the GCN, and even then I was appalled by how bad the game looked. That, plus the load times, is enough to turn anyone off, but I found it still held some merit, if only a little

Best: Madworld. Had no intention of buying it, I went to buy Resi 5 (which doesnt work on my computer) and I could get MadWorld with it. Best decision ever!

Worst: Rocked up to GAME, bought Resi 5. Got home, installed it, and it can't be played, tried returning it and they refused. GAME = Dicks.

Yeah, I think it's pretty much widely accepted that everything after Seeds of Evil is rubbish.
Rage Wars was okay, but shallow (supposed to be primarily a multiplayer game anyway).

Edit for Metacritic scores:
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (N64): 85
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (N64): 86
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (N64): 77
Turok: Evolution (PS2/XBox/GC): 61/68/70
Turok (PC/PS3/X360): 65/67/69

My only Impulse buy that I can remember is Pokemon Ranger, because I went with my friend to Wal-Mart so he could get a game, and he chose Pokemon Ranger and I just felt the need to get it as well, the game is ok, not amazing but pretty fun.

Best Impulse Buys:
Wario Land Shake It! -- Walked into a store and saw this game on "sale" cheap enough that I couldn't pass it up. (It was actually a pricing error, so I just got lucky.) After getting it home fell in love with every aspect of the game! Great music, wonderful graphics, great level design... easy to beat, but grabbing all the achievements takes some planning and effort. Possibly my favorite Nintendo game of this generation.

Runners Up:
Dawn of Discovery -- Always planned to get this eventually, but one day couldn't hold back and pulled the trigger. Wow, what took so long! Deep strategy, a nice lengthy tutorial (aka: story mode), and infinite replay value? Hard to ask for more.

Dokapon Kingdom -- An Atlus-published party game with RPG roots? Tons of depth and customization while playing, and hilarious interactions between characters? Mario Party was sold quickly after this game arrived, and hasn't been missed at all.

Worst Impulse Buys:
Alone in the Dark -- But it's the soundtrack edition! How bad could the game really be?
Manhunt 2 -- Not horrible, but definitely not worth the hype. Only memorable now for how much of a let down it was.
Viewtiful Joe -- I understand why people like it, but this really wasn't the game for me.

BlastWorks: I picked this up not knowing too much about it, just that a lot of people online had been saying good things about it, it supposedly had some sort of Katamari inspired gameplay, and it was already super cheap. Well... I can see how it'd be a nice little package for bullet hell shooter fans and people who love creating their own levels. Unfortunately, I am neither. This just isn't my thing, and I could have saved the money if I'd looked into it a little more first.

Wow - that's a great description of the game. For the small niche who are into crazy shooters and user-generated content, it's AMAZING. For everyone else... well, let's just say that it is easy to see why this game didn't sell a ton of copies.

Noire

Best: Golden Sun. Yes indeed, that was an impulse buy from way back when I was twelve. I had Christmas money to burn, and it caught my eye. What can I say, I've never looked at another game the same way. :3

Worst: Something completely random that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Linkuini

Best: New Super Mario Bros. – Was planning to wait for a used copy, but I saw it in stores and happened to have gift money, so I couldn't help myself.

Viewtiful Joe – Tatsunoko vs. Capcom reminded me of its existence and next time I was in Gamestop I saw it on the shelf for a measly $2.99. The amount of technique to using Joe's movie-inspired powers is mind-boggling!

Worst: Nintendogs – I still don't know where I put that game. Good thing I didn't get a real dog!

The_Fox

Best: Gears of War
Rocket Slime
Boom Blox

Worst: Star Fox Adventures (ewww...)
Mario Party 8 (I hated the others, so I don't know what made me think this would be better)
Killer7 (sure, it was hella unique but the gameplay was terrible)

Best:
ExciteTruck - At first I thought it way overpriced, but I just kept coming back to it and came to love it
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - I wanted to relive SF2 in the arcades from when I was in High School, and bought this with trepidation about how fighers have changed. I was quickly in over my head, but have pulled myself up to the surface of the deep gameplay and adore the game

Worst:
Tetris Party - Nothing wrong with the game, but I always think I should get Tetris, then do and never play it as I've played it for umpteen years already
Legacy of Y's - Again nothing wrong with the game, but the price was cut in half within weeks making me wish I'd waited
Andre Panza Kick-Boxing - Too old a game for most to remember, but I was desperate for fighting action on the TG-16, and this was the best I could find...it was better left undiscovered
FF7 (PC) - I started to play it, but then realized why I'd stopped playing RPGs, I just don't have the time...it sits on a shelf w/less than an hour played
KOTOR (PC) - Ditto above
