As the title loosely implies, what do you guys think is the best movie ever?

I...don't honestly have an answer for this, I want to say either Old Yeller, Iron Giant(Old yeller with Giant robots=win), Men in Black 1 or 2, or Rush Hour 2. I might have to update this later when I've made a decision.

The Nightmare Before Christmas locks the spot as one of my all-time classic faves.
I love the music and the stop-animation look.

Agreed.

And in a close second place...

Why is Optimus Prime holding Samus up in the air like that?

I don't believe I can rate my favorite films in that specific of an order, so I usually just give something the highest praise by saying that it easily reaches into my top 5 or top 10 of all time.

Some near the top for me, off the top of my head:
2001: A Space Odyssey
Mulholland Drive
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Vertigo
Lost in Translation

Yet any selection of 5 or even 10 will not be a very representative sample of my taste, as I suspect is the case for most.

I'm not sure I can choose the best movie, but here are my votes:

  • The Prince of Egypt
  • Pinocchio
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Jurassic Park
  • Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

If I'm doing this wrong, please don't be harsh about it.

AVATAR!!!

...just kidding.

It's really hard to say. Different movies have different reasons for being so good. The original Transformers movie is pretty good though not a movie I'd call my favorite. Much better than Michael Bay's messterpiece. The Goonies is my favorite movie but mostly because I grew up with it. If I hadn't I'm not sure if I would hold it up so high or not.

Best Western: Once Upon a Time in the West (but only if you are an experience film viewer with a taste for movies requiring patience and prefer style over straight up action).

@Irken: Lol, I've never seen the movie, just making a joke... It DOES really look like it, though...

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy are in my opinion the Best Movies ever, runner up is the Original Star Wars Trilogy.

Alien. The first film is incredibly moody. Great design, sound, and Sigourny Weaver. Toned down and creepy in just the right way. I like Aliens too, but for other reasons. Alien gets me full of awe every time I see it.

OldBoy

In no paticular order :

Old Boy
pi
Howls moving Castle
Reservoir Dogs
Original Star Wars Trilogy

New ones that may make 'the list':

District 9
The Hurt Locker

great list. All time greatest movie isn't something I can rightfully say, because I'm not very knowledgeable about classic films. The best movie of the best decade, however, is either: Wall-E, The Incredibles, or The Dark Knight (with Where the Wild Things Are as a runner up)
