I'd like to start importing games from Japan and I would like to know what games are worth importing. So far I've only ordered Rhythm Tengoku. I can't read Japanese yet but as long as it's a good game I'm ok with not being able to read what people are saying. I do plan on learning how to read Japanese eventually though. If the game is region locked please let me know in your post.
i'm guessing you're open to DS suggestions as well as GBA ones, so if you liked Elite Beat Agents, check out Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. it's the Japanese incarnation, and it was good times. still wish they'd come out with an EBA2, though
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3
[16:43] James: I should learn these site rules more clearly
[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
To be honest, I saw this in the forum list on the front page and immediately thought "Ouendan" and its sequel. Even if you don't neccesarily like J-pop (I didn't), there's a lot of appeal to it.
Regarding which one to buy, the first one has some strong tracks (though all music is objective), but the second one is more polished, resembling Elite Beat Agents more (Bonus stages, the ability to skip those long cutscenes etc.)
Mr. Driller A for GBA is probably the version of Mr. Driller to get for that platform, though you'll probably want to print off a walkthrough to get the most out of it.
I also rate Shanghai Advance, though the resolution of the GB Micro screen is just enough to be able to make out the tile characters.
Mother 3. I know that there's a lot of Japanese text (or you could just get the fan translation english patch) in the game, but this is the only game I can think of so far.
Hokuto no Ken! You've never played a fighting game like this, it's a real blast once you get the hang of it. My avatar (Toki) is one of the more tricky characters to master.
DoDonPachi: Dai Ou Jou (PS2) is one of the best bullet shooters around. King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (PS2) is the definitive KOF fighting game. I have a lot of Japanese games. Hmm, what else... Ouendan 2 for the DS, and another vote for Jump! Ultimate Stars.
I have the Japanese versions of the first three Phoenix Wrights (Gyakuten Saiban) on the DS, since they came with English translations! The miracle never happen...
Are there any sites to import games from (EU) ? I'd like to play Shenmue 2 but I don't want an xbox, and I know that it was released for the dreamcast there.
Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin: 7tsu no Shima no Daibouken (Extreme! Taiko Drummaster DS 2: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands) is the second one and has more songs and a lenghthy story mode that has English guides available online. It's right up there with EBA/Ouendan in my opinion.

There are etailers in the UK you could probably order from, but remember that games in Europe use PAL video, so unless you have a multi-standard TV (very uncommon in North America) or are going to run your console through a PAL-NTSC converter you'll end up with a messed-up display (B&W at best).
Yeah, as much as people in PAL-land complain about not getting as many releases as North America and Japan we do have the best of all worlds when it comes to video displays because TVs can display either PAL or NTSC out of the box and region-free DVD players are standard meaning I can import video/games from anywhere in the world and all I need to worry about is swapping out a power supply potentially.
