So, asides from GTAV, this console generation is winding down. Many great, and not-so-great games, populated this interesting era in gaming history, so I want YOUR opinion as to the best and the worst of this generation. Just post top 5 lists (PLZ specify if they are in order or not) for the best and worst games on PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, DS, PSP (I know, I know)
For PC and phone games, it must have been released 2006 or later, so sadly no Half Life 2.
I shall regularly tally the results.

Why is Virtue's Last Reward on the list? Nice story, interesting dialogue, voice acting was great, puzzles were great and more forgiving, I don't have one complaint, and was actually intending to put it on my best list.

Having to go down so many different paths to get anywhere. Why does the game even give you options for the story if you have to see the other paths anyways to get an ending? It just killed it for me. Not to say the game was absolutely terrible or anything, I've played much much worse. But I find it hard to believe people have raved about it so much.
And oooops, it is an 8th gen game. Silly, silly me! Still stuck in 7th gen/8th gen confusion!
I'll add one for each console. As long as I play it on the system anything goes, even if its multi-console. But due to my lack of knowledge for PSP games, I'm not going to add a worst. Best
Wii: Super Mario Galaxy - This is practically a work of art. Best soundtrack, simple gameplay, beautiful graphics. It set the standards for Wii games pretty high. Yadayada. Everyone on NL should know why its practically perfect by now.
Xbox 360: Pac Man Championship Edition DX - Pac Man's best sequel in years. Its practically an adrenaline rush. And I don't even like the original Pac Man games.
PS3: Flower - If there was ever an example on how a game can be a work of art, Flower would hands-down be that example. Its playful, its beautiful, it sounds relaxing, and the controls really work for the system. The game shows a reason to respect motion controls, and a reason to respect all of gaming. Please, play this before you die.
DS: Professor Layton and the Last Specter - Even though Unwound Future is the best game of all 4 of the DS titles, Last Specter is the one anyone can play, anyone can enjoy its charm, and anyone can enjoy the cinematics. This generation showed games can be a cinematic, and engrossing, like a movie or novel. The DS' best example was this. As I can look at this game, both directions.
PSP: Locoroco - I don't know too many PSP games, but I do know this one is amazing. It purely is a game. From the color, to the zany music, to its own controls and level design, shows that its much more than going from point A to B. Locoroco was one of the only games that truly thinks of itself as a game rather than a mission, quest or anything more serious than the word "game"
Worst
Wii: Sonic Unleashed - tries to be the opposite of why we love Sonic. I play a Sonic game for adrenaline and fun. Half of Sonic Unleashed relys on leveling up, slow combat, and plenty of bad ideas that should never again be in a Sonic game.
360: 80% of Kinect Only games Controls are usually unnecessary, innacurate, blatent copies of dance games, or something that tries to steal your money by having "Fitness" or "Active" in its title.
PS3: Sports Connection It feels way too much like a blatent cash-grab, and something there just to block attention from the Wii.
DS New Super Mario Bros. Its a good game, when it launched, but by the end of the generation, it barely holds up, because its been out done by Wii, and got even better, the more Nintendo released more Marios. It can't even come close to New Super Mario Bros. U.
Worst is gonna be real easy considering how I tend to avoid bad games.
Best:
Wii: 1. Super Mario Galaxy: One of the most pure fun gaming experiences around. Borderline perfect gameplay.
2. Xenoblade Chronicles: Fantastic, epic RPG with one of the most addicting combat systems ever (I definitely buy its MMO inspired).
3. World of Goo: An absolutely brilliant puzzle game, to the point that I actually beat the game on PC too.
4. Twilight Princess: Or how to throw away a bit of creativity for a lack of bad gameplay in even the tiniest sections (...I think). Close to be a perfect Zelda game.
5. Little King's Story: Pretty much a four or five way tie but I chose LKS just for its brand of japanese medieval insanity. THOSE BOSSES.
360:
1. The Orange Box: Some of the best first person games ever made. Designed so well that Valve put in-game commentaries for most of it, presumably just to brag about how great they are at their job.
2. Mass Effect 2: I want more continuing stories like Mass Effect. Combining what the first game already did and making me care so much more in this game makes it probably one of my favorite video game stories ever (ironic considering the main story is far less important in 2 than the other games, it's like the Majora's Mask of the series). I cared so much, it made me like a 3rd person cover shooter.
3. Red Dead Redemption: My favorite GTA-style sandbox game, this combined the best of the western with the best of these types of games. Everything I wish I liked in other Rockstar games I somehow love here. Maybe it's the setting but this game was a joy to play.
4. Batman; Arkham City: ...it's Arkham City.
5. Assassin's Creed 2: I've started to question how good my 2nd favorite 7th gen gaming series is for certain reasons but when I played 2 in 2009, it was so good. Possibly the best example of a sequel improving everything about the original.
DS:
1. Mario Kart DS: I don't think I'll ever be that big a Mario Kart fan again. This one perfected controls, was the first Nintendo online game, had those addictive missions etc. And retro courses were a brilliant idea.
2. Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations: My favorite series that started (in America) during 7th gen. I picked this one specifically because it was the most consistently great and had the best case of the whole series.
3. Rhythm Heaven: My favorite Rhythm game. I sometimes question if I'm too biased towards Nintendo but while I don't play a ton of rhythm games, this crazy Warioware-like game is my favorite just because it is my favorite. It just is, good for Nintendo for still making brilliant titles like this and Xenoblade.
4. Radiant Historia: Amazing little JRPG, love the time travel gimmick, it's so clever especially for side quests.
5. Advance Wars DS: One of the few strategy games I can fully enjoy without getting frustrated. Thanks for helping idiots like me!
PS3: i played a ps3 game once, it was called little big planet, it was fun
PSP: i played a psp game once, it was called loco roco, it was fun

Samba de Amigo. My former favorite rhythm game. This port sucks, the controls are broken.
360:
Fable 3: The constantly annoying inventory system and map and the boring, easy as heck combat make this a really bad game. Luckily I just played it with some friend who I think I pitied for buying this new.
DS: Rayman 2: I didn't like what I played of Rayman 2 on the N64 but I wanted to get into it since everyone loves this game. ...the DS version didn't help. Bad controls for a game I don't care about is not fun.

So hard to narrow it done to just 5 as there has been so many great games this gen. Honourable mentions go to Wii Sports, LittleBigPlanet, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Braid, Assassins Creed 2, Dark Souls, Journey, Fez, The Walking Dead, Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us.
Best:
1. Bioshock- The game is just brilliant. Everything about it is amazing. The story, visuals (on ps3), the music, everything. If you haven't played this game, and you have the means to, do it. Nothing more can be said but best game ever.
2. Bioshock Infinite- Fantastic game, a better story than it's predecessor, but the gameplay, and environment just can't beat Rapture. It's close though.
3. Dark/Demon's Soul's- So unique, there is nothing like them. They are both about equal in different ways. The scope of the worlds, the music, the secret lore, the difficulty, and of course the boss battles. Such a great experience.
4. Portal 2- Mind blowing puzzles, environment, and story. Very original, and one of a kind.
5. LittleBigPlanet 1&2- LittleBigPlanet has a very special place in my heart. It's why I got a PS3, it has given me so many memories over hundreds of hours. It's my most nostalgic game, even though I got it 7 years after my first system. It is a really fun original game.
Honorable mentions: Skyward Sword, Heavy Rain, Infamous 2, The Last of Us, Uncharted 3.
1. Metroid Prime Hunters (for Nintendo DS) - Metroid Prime Hunters is my favorite game of all time, and the rest of this list will be the rest of my Top 5 of all time. What has set Metroid Prime Hunters apart time after time is just how personally it can be taken. In the single player, the experience is opened to many different completion routes so a player can make a run their own. The sounds, details and history of the Alimbic territories are also incredibly well meshed together, leaving a very impactful atmosphere and background for the game's settings. That said, the adventure is ambiguous so the player has plenty to interpret if they wish. I'm still learning about Hunters with hundreds of hours invested into the adventure mode. Now in the bot matches, I have the freedom to be any of the seven bounty hunters featured and it's a blast to get into them all. I'm invested differently for each of them based on their abilities and that feeling of variety has lead to over 700 hours of my total playtime.
2. Xenoblade Chronicles (for Nintendo Wii) - This is the only title that can sometimes compete with Metroid Prime Hunters. It is the greatest game on the Wii by a landslide in my opinion, and has the best sounding soundtrack I've heard from a Nintendo game. Most of the time, I think it's a generation ahead as it just blows my mind how this came out on the Wii considering what the Wii's library is made up of.
3. Dementium II (for Nintendo DS) - I have only done one completion of this game and it was completed all in one day. Dementium II is the most engrossing game I have played based on first runs, and it is very engrossing thanks to its incredibly thick atmosphere. The Doctor is the best voice acted villain I have so far encountered in a videogame, being absolutely wicked in this title, and everytime he spoke I just had an urge to keep pushing forward in hopes of taking it to the man that has tortured my character (William).
4. Animal Crossing Wild World (for Nintendo DS) - Wild World is what I would consider my summer game, as that happens to be when the game is at its best. What it has that other Animal Crossing games don't have, barring the original as I've not played it, is its presentation. We have the top screen showcasing the beautiful sky and we have the bottom screen showcasing the beauty of our town, neighbors and character. The presentation feels natural, and the town more immersive as a result. Beyond that, I love that Wild World is a game that made catching bugs and fishing addictive, and that really helped sell that carefree, small town vibe.
5. Chibi-Robo Park Patrol (for Nintendo DS) - While a tiny invention solving household chaos is certainly great to have, I admired that that invention saw expansion and became a rescuer of the environment in this sequel. That said, being Chibi-Robo this time around just felt that much more important and impactful. Being a guy who doesn't like to see places trashed by other people, I developed more of a personal experience out of Park Patrol and felt exactly at home with the goals of the little robot. If an oversized pollutant wrecked my park one day, that would just mean I would have to work that much harder the next day. It felt natural and real world to an extent making comebacks from those bad days.

@8BitSamurai I think that's a case of you not liking the visual novel genre...
You see, visual novels are all about getting to that one good ending in the game. Just look at some of them: Corpse Party, 999, Ever17, and Steins;Gate, to name a few. They are not about choosing your own adventure. They are about unraveling a story, like in a book. Getting those bad endings are simply a part of the story.
What made Zero Escape so special was that it could not have been possible in any form of media other than video games. By using knowledge from other timelines, you unraveled the story bit by bit in a way that would not have been possible as a book, a movie, or a TV show. It used narrative as a gameplay device, which hasn't really been done before (except for one instance in 999).

I'll vote The "brat isithwoyouspellit?"(that boring girl's game my sister got can't remember the name well though) Wii game as the worst and SSB brawl as the best!
