Is the group imposing this ban trying to gain recruits for the groups that are fighting against it? Seriously, with all these bans, people will have nothing better to do than rebel against something... who better to rise up against than the ones making your life miserable?

I was about to say this flat-out sucked, but the fact that all electronic entertainment is banned from Somalia is just outragous. What have they done to deserve it? Nothing, video games are just for fun and nothing else, the only reason why they could be bad is if you let your kids spend all day on them and/or let them play games they're too old for. Doesn't the Somailian government realize they made a big mistake by outlawing an much more peaceful activity then what could kill them. This is just so sad.

And the Somilian government doesn't exist anymore.

@Vander: My thought exactly.

I feel sorry for those poor former gamers. I think I'd go CRAZY if my #1 pasttime was suddenly made illegal, especially with all those other things already having been banned!

Hate to break it to you SSBF1999, but Somalia has no government. It's in anarchy right now. It's a bad case of different groups not getting alone.

Me too. I would be very very depress, knowing that I would have to move to another country just to play video games. The only way we could change that is to demand to legalize video games. But in Somalia, they have no government, so the situation is just getting worse and worse and worse. This is why I never like watching the news, why become depress with bad news every day when you can just ignore it and spend time on your favorite hobby and only listen to the news when necessary? The only thing I want to be concern about is if I'll be able to feed myself and freedom in our nation.

@cheetahman91: I knew that, I just didn't process the thought into my brain while posting that comment. But yeah, anchary is terrible. Now normally, I'm against military coups, but this should be an exception because I can guaranteen you that if an democratic nation were to take over Somlia, it would be an better place to live in. Of course it'll only be temporarily.

Well first of all, I doubt Somalia has very many gamers.

Secondly, if you lived in a war-torn country, you'd have bigger problems than a lack of electronic entertainment (which once again, is presumebly something the majority don't have access too).

Thirdly, instead of withdrawing away from the bad things, they could work to make a diffence.

Not that such a ban isn't a bad thing, it's just being blown way out of proportion here.
Actually, I take that back, it could be used positively. Rather than bringing useless things into the country, they could bring in essentials for survival.

Without a doubt. Still, I'm sure it was one of the few luxuries that people that played them had there.

Half an hour of gameplay for the equivalent of 15 cents SOUNDS like something that the majority of schoolboys could afford. Reading the article, it seems that enough of them did to make this a noteworthy problem. Most people over there probably didn't actually OWN any consoles, but they had a setup where it wasn't necessary.
