I downloaded a lot of VC games on Wii and Wii U. I was running out of space on my Wii U so I had a Seagate (I think) external hard drive attached to it for more games. I’m worried about the hard drive or Wii U dying a few years down the road after Nintendo pulls the plug on the Wii U eshop like they are doing with the Wii shop channel. In that case not only will all VC games on Wii U be permanently gone but also the Wii VC games as well since Nintendo made the cruel decision of making us transfer all Wii VC games to Wii U to get that upgrade discount. Is there any other way to back up all downloaded Wii U and Wii VC games so I don’t lose them after my Wii U and external hard drive dies?
@Don You'd probably have better luck posting about this in the Wii U thread. But it can be done. I don't believe Nintendolife would be okay with me directly linking you, but you can follow instructions on the website when you Google "Wii U hacks" there is homebrew software to back up your games.

@Tasuki
I guess I’ll have to keep buying digital games to a minimum. Especially with Nintendo the way they handle digital downloads of not allowing same purchase on multiple devices.
@Don It is perfectly legal. In the sense that it is not a crime. Nintendo just doesn't provide the service and using any non-Nintendo approved software is considered a hack. Hacking a console is not the same as pirating. They tend to be connected however because hacking a console can enable piracy.
