Topic: Attention Staff: Why are your forums so unwelcoming and cruel?

Yesterday I found out the games being released for Thursday and I was so happy to find and share them. I posted them to the 3DS eshop board. What happened? I was attacked and then topic locked. Why? Because it was a new topic.

When jezebel.com had forums one was called groupthink. We were always welcoming of people. We had about 100 topics a day. We had one woman who when her husband was sick posted 5 topics a day keeping us informed. No one said "keep this in one topic". We had about 5 topics a day about the war against women waged by republicans (US) no one said "keep it in one topic". We didn't berate people when on they talked about movies and said "keep it in one topic".

Forums need to be free flowing. People should be welcome to share. It shouldn't matter if they create a new topic or not. Why stress people out about this. Why attack and well be cruel about it.

Right now I am depressed, I feel hurt and I feel totally unwelcome. What should have been welcoming about the new games in US on Thursday I was treated by mods cruelly.

If you are going to be this cruel and unwelcoming to your users maybe you shouldn't have forums. I am right now feel so unwelcome all because I created a topic something that should be allowed not condemned and locked on which to me is spitting on my face because I shared. Jezebels groupthink always, always were welcoming and no one cared about creating new topics. Neither btw does the gamefaqs forums.

I am just depressed now.

Sounds like the forum that you used to go on was a disorganized mess. I like Nintendo Life because its forums are squeaky clean and there aren't pointless redundant topics. Those people on that forum really SHOULD have kept it all on one topic. I don't really want to go on a forum where five threads a day discuss some random topic. That sounds ridiculous.

I'm not staff, but I've read your posts for a while now, and these are pretty much the keys to your problem here:

1) You don't even attempt to understand the rules around here and instead act like this place is just like like the other forum you go to when everyone keeps trying to tell you it's not.

2) ...actually, that's it. If you would actually read and follow the rules, no one would be giving you a hard time. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but you really need to wake up, man. Every forum has its own rules, and everyone who participates on them has to follow their rules. This place is no different in that regard. It's one thing if it was once in a while, but it's almost constant with you.

We had 100 threads a day. We always welcomed people. I had on average 10 to 15 topics (threads) ranging from articles, videos, my day etc. Yes all 100 plus threads were random but we all liked it. No pressure, no condemning, people actually complained if there were less then 50 it got topics of "where is everyone"

I agree, those mods are cruel. Sometimes they would beat me, but I did survive.

Oh I did survive, see as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive.

@Eisenbolan

how was i 'cruel' to you? i pointed out that NL is not Jezebel. i asked that you put your info in the thread that already exists for that topic. it will get more views since people will know where to look. they can check the forums list and see where there are new posts.

it is the way NL life works. if you have concerns about it, i suggest you contact staff directly thru the contact link at the bottom of the page.

Every single forum is different. On a forum such as this, on a website with thousands - if not tens of thousands - of users, community rules have to be adhered to if the majority are going to be able to enjoy the forums. A thread is called a thread because it's meant to keep to one line of discussion - that's why they were created.

Every forum is different, and if you want another forum like groupthink, I would suggest you create one. As one of the mods already said in another topic, this is not jezebel.com - it's Nintendo Life.

I personally think it would be a really good idea if you calmed down a little - and I'm honestly not being condescending by saying that, I say it because nobody has berated you, nobody has condemned you, and nobody has spat in your face. All the administrators, moderators and your fellow members expect of you - as they do of anybody else - is that you adhere to the community rules. They aren't there to be forceful or draconian, they're there to ensure everybody can enjoy the forums as much as possible.

I hope that gave you something to think about and I hope you continue to enjoy the forums. If all you want is something exactly like groupthink, I would strongly suggest creating your own forum - there are many free options available to you.

Different forums operate differently. That forum of yours was a mess. You may have liked it, but it's what we would want. Tell me, do want to shove everybody here under the bus so it can be the way you personally like it, or would you rather the forums are organized the everybody here but you likes it. It would unhappily and drive away most of the community here if things were like the forum you keep mentioning. (I'm not trying to as hostile here, just think about what I said.)

@Eisenbolan : I hope you won't mistake the thread being locked for anyone disregarding your contributions to the forums! It's standard practice and how the forums are run here, and certainly not a reflection on your topics - when there's an existing thread, our mods will simply reroute the discussion there, so that more people will see and be able to respond to / read what you've written.

It's a different system from GroupThink, or GameFAQs, or other forums, but I promise that topic locking isn't done with any ill will! In my experience, I've found NL to be an incredibly welcoming community, and I'm sure you will too

So I made a thread recently about the latest update on the 3DS. Now the reason it wasn't locked was because I was the first one to make said topic. Yours was locked was because there already was a topic on the upcoming releases. That's what's nice about Nintendo Life the forums are less cluttered with threads about the same thing. Make sense????

Hey Eisenbolan, don't take it personally. People here are only trying to help, but sometimes they don't know how to communicate with nice words. Trust me, and like others have said, each forum has their own rules so... If you don't like it you can go somewhere else.

Alright this is a little crazy.

Some sites just plain out work differently. Personally, this is one of the most welcoming sites I've been too, and currently the only active Forum I'm even on (been that way for a long time actually). Don't take it so personal. It's just how they organize things here. Hope you stay and enjoy yourself.

Sounds horrible. I'll stick with our NL rules, thank you very much. Our rules keep everything organized, and I'm all about organization.

Let me tell you a story. One time I had a horrible experience at Gamestop. I was so frustrated that I made a thread about it and told everyone what happened. It got locked. But I wasn't mad, because I understood WHY it got locked. I created it out of emotion and anger, and a thread that trashes Gamestop doesn't contribute to the forum. It deserved to get locked, and I'm glad it did. Try to use that mindset next time, okay?

All of this.

Eisenbolan, you've been told time and time and time and time and time and time again that if you have a concern for the mods or site admins, to contact us directly. I know because I've told you personally, and so have others. Yet you refuse to do so, choosing instead to take to the forums.

Nobody here is being cruel or unwelcoming. We are asking you to abide by the same rules that every one of our users abides by, and the reason is that without rules we'd have chaos. It's nothing personal...as you see from the replies in this thread, others have broken the rules and they've faced the same consequences as you. When those consequences are locked or deleted threads, you have to realize that's nothing worth getting wound up about. And it's far from cruelty.

The fact is that you repeatedly break the same rules...once again you're calling out the staff when you've been asked numerous times not to do that, and to get in touch directly, so of course our fuses are shorter with you than others; we've asked you to do something, and you've repeatedly refused to listen. If we're short with you, it's because you continue to demonstrate that you don't want to listen to us when we try to help.

You may not like the rules we have here. That's okay; we can't please everybody, though we certainly try. But as long as you are here those are the rules. And they apply to everyone.
