It sucks to hear this news since Artie was my favorite cast member on Mad TV. It was never the same after the first couple seasons. I really hope he gets better.
I like our social morals - Random heroin addict attempts suicide. Hurrah, had it coming anyway. Heroin addict attempts suicide BUT HE'S FAMOUS AND DOES COMEDY. Sympathies, please get well soon. We love you.
Yeah I have absolutely no idea who this guy is, and I'm totally agreeing with Machu. Guy's a wreck.
Well sorry if it doesn't agree with you. Some of us actually like his work. And I would like to see the man get better so I can continue to see his comedy. Plus drug addiction is horrible and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Yes I would like to see the guy around for a while. I love how you generalize all of us too in that we hope that every non famous heroin addict should die. You know us so well.
I only saw him on MADtv and I liked most of what he did. It is a shame that anyone's life could get low enough to attempt that. I wish him the best, even with his addictions. People have multiple reasons for doing what they do and I try not to judge until I know personally what it is like. I only hope that others will consider the same thoughts if I ever make a questionable decision.

You misunderstand me. I wasn't making an attack on this particular guy (although I was using him as an example) or anyone on this forum or the forum as a whole. I wouldn't wish heroin addiction on anyone either, but it's their own choice and regardless of what they do for a career, I don't believe they deserve our sympathies. Anyway, the point I was making is that generally someone who engages in something strongly harmful and/or illegal and then dies as a result of it is rarely met with much sympathy, at least not without a lot of heavy emphasis on how horrible whatever they were doing was and that more has to be done to stop it. When a celebrity dies, however, for the same reasons, the focus is much more on 'the loss of a great person' and the whole addiction thing becomes a diagnosis but not much of an issue.

I like Artie a lot, he can be hilarious. But in general, i'm also with Machu on this one, as i have trouble maintaining respect for anyone who chooses that "way out". That being said, let's hope he seeks and gets whatever help he needs.
@Raylax: I couldn't care less about most celebrities "demons" and deaths. But Artie feels like a family member to me as I've listened to him for at least 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, for over 3 years now. Drug addiction is a horrible thing and it is a stupid decision to do drugs, I know. I got on the wrong track a few years back and was almost under narcotics spell when I got arrested and it woke me up. Drug addiction is a horrible thing and I wish it on no one, as I know you don't either
I just never liked Artie or Howard Stern for that matter. That being said, I hope he is able to get better and point his life in a more positive direction.
Given how consuming heroin is, I imagine he's in anguish almost constantly (he wouldn't be lashing out and stabbing himself if he were happy with his decision/lifestyle). While one only has himself to blame for kick-starting any addiction, breaking them isn't child's play and none less so than heroin. Artie made Beer League, and that movie owns. I hope he can get free of the grips--we all make mistakes, and when that mistake results in a heroin addiction it can be quite difficult to undo. Best of luck man.

Very spot on Swerd. Drugs and other addictions are easy to get into, but very very hard to get out of. He made a bad decision as many of us do in life. I hope he can break out of this just as I would hope any non celebrity could break out as well.
Artie likes the lifestyle too much. His stand up is all about partying too. He uses his lifestyle as a way to get inspired. Example: Alot of of musicians are train wrecks themselves but deliver some better music in the process . I hope Artie gets through this, as i love his work. If i could give him advise it would be to party in moderation, it's way better that way..

Knowing a lot of people that have died from drug abuse/addiction, I've become numb to it. If a person wants to get help, they will. I can't tell you how many times I have talked to people about seeking help for their "demons" but just been told "I need them". I can see if the drug in question is pain pills or even booze (as in my former line of work we had lingering pain all the time and the booze does help you forget about it for short priods of time) but when it comes to cocaine, heroine and crack it's crazy. I've had too many friends die before they were 40 because of this stuff to care whether Artie lives or dies really. The thing is, if Howard Stern really cared about him, he would do an intervention with him that wasn't part of the show and done for laughs. He's exploiting him and his problems and in a way is contributing to Artie's demise. I hope Artie sees where this all leads and get's straight but if he doesn't it's no skin off my nose and doesn't change my (or anyone else here) life.
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
I don't think Howard should have done an intervention, I think they should have given him a forced leave of abscence or something and let his family do an intervention. I think I recall him saying that his mom and his sister did do an intervention on him. Pretty much every time he said he was going to treatment or rehab were all lies.
...they say that you have to reach rock bottom before you realize you need to change (if you make it through). If this isn't as far down as you can get then I don't know what is.
