I've often seen the question ebbing and flowing around the Internet 'Is there any alternative to DeviantArt.com?' and the answer that often times is given is a solid 'no. However, I'm about to disprove that as I've found three new sites that I hope you guys will enjoy. I've been drawing lately as my interest in art and animation is constantly being re-invigorated by the new and exciting events playing out in the art/ illustration world and as such I just had to know all the options as to sites like DeviantArt and that is how I discovered these sites.

(a) sheezyart was a MySpace wannabe furry-based 'answer' to dA that went to crap years ago — all the furs fled to furaffinity once that hit (though FA is a few other brands of BS now). idk what's up with SA at the moment, but it probably pales in comparison to both dA and FA by now. (b) conceptart.org is only good if you are absolutely, positively serious about pursuing a career in art. don't bother them otherwise. (c) elfwood has been around almost since the dawn of images being posted to the internet. that said, last i knew, elfwood proper was for fantasy images only and had a strict moderation team reviewing each submission to the site — they did have a sci-fi side to mirror the fantasy part of things, but for works of art that didn't fall under either category, they wouldn't let you post them. a quick glance at the main site now seems to say that nothing's changed.
Honestly, WaltzElf is right — if you don't want to post it to dA, just make your own site and gallery and post your work there. in terms of a thriving community, though, there's not much else in the way of alternatives to dA that are as open and accepting of users from all walks of life, young and old, experienced and not.

Well SheezyArt has really improved and it's a lot better than it used to be. Elfwood can seriously use some help but I won't trash on them. Deviant Art will always be the best but it gets to be a bore if you use it ALL the time like I used to.
That is a good link WaltzElf but I can't see myself really needing that as I'm just really doing fan art and stuff. I am set now beginning to set aside more time to get better at Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator in art making as I prepare to attend Ai Art Institute here in Atlanta, GA. Man, life is such a blur there is hardly any time to what you really want to do in life.

I enjoy deviant art... Except for the pleople who use it to post random photos of themselves in underwear/ with their face covered with their hair/ doing the duck face/ etc or some other internet/tv related thing which they obviously didn't do themselves and then continue to post about their life facebook-style.
I won't complain about people who draw/craft horribly bad done things and try to pass it as art because I may be one of them.
I also have a cousin who is a real-deal artist and he usually puts his paintings on, you know, places outside of the internet (though he has some of them posted online (though i doubt he posted them himself)).

That's why I went over to SheezyArt because they don't have the women and young adults posting psycho or pornographic images of themselves like DeviantART does. I still love DeviantART but I hate all the racy stuff over there.
Actually, dA has rules against pornography, so if you see something like that, TokyoRed, try reporting it. However, they also do allow artistic nudes, so if it's got artistic value of some sort, they'll usually let it stand.
that said, lol, are we talking about the same SheezyArt? you can find plenty of 'mature' art there, same as dA. you can set your settings on both sites to not automatically load mature artworks if they bother you so much (iirc in the case of SA, but i know for a fact you can block them on dA if you don't want to see them).

Last time I bothered with DA (this is years ago now), it was possible to turn "safe mode" on, where adult images are blocked.
If you have that safe mode on, then you should just report the person that had a nude in there that is avoiding that filter. If you don't have safe mode on, then it's not DA's fault if your little sister saw something objectionable.
(for the record, I don't buy into this "pornography isn't art" talk. Mostly because people mistake explicit nudity for pornography, and the two are not necessarily mutually inclusive. I would hope DA, if it is a legitimate art site, would recognise that).
I'm an animator, but I do draw sometimes. I just post animations on youtube. Other than that, none of my art is posted on the internet.

Then the person that posted the picture is at fault and should be banned from the site. You shouldn't be the one that gets grief for that from your family.
And no, I don't. I'll clean up my photos in photoshop, but I don't use the software in any substansive way.
Other than my photography, I'm woeful at visual arts.
@Dragoon: you'd be surprised what i believe. that said, there's no arguing with a dA moderator if they personally believe something actually has artistic merit, so if your tastes and theirs don't gel, just turn off Mature submissions in your settings (at that point, any nude that makes it through the filter is reportable).

Well guys, I was illustrating some of my art in Photoshop (doing line-art, coloring) but I was careless and got a virus/ trojan horse and lost everything.
