The new CW series based on the Green Arrow premiered last Wednesday. I have to say that it started off good IMO. Green Arrow is one of the superheroes that I dont know that much about so I can't really say if it follows the comics or not. I do like the dark undertones this show has which kinda reminds me of Batman Begins.
Overall I think it looked good and will be following this show.
Anyone else catch it and what did you think of it?
I enjoyed the pilot episode quite a bit. I think Green Arrow can sometimes be overlooked so it's nice to see him get his own show. I kinda wished it was longer but that's just the way of television but I think the show will be interesting.

I was curious to check it out until i learned that Justin Hartley wasn't reprising his Smallville role. Then i kinda lost interest. I'll probably check it out at some point though. Is the series a stand-alone, or is it set in the Smallville-continuity?

I believe that its a stand alone but I could be wrong but nothing that I have read suggests otherwise.

Yeah, if i remember correctly, Hartley was going to possibly star when they were first debating the idea — and when it originally was conceived to be a continuation of the Smallville continuity — but by the time the series was greenlit it had changed somewhat, and he had committed to other projects. It also makes sense that if they want to set the series apart from Smallville, it's best to start with different casting.

And correct me if I am wrong wasnt he going to be Aquaman in an Aquaman series as well, but for whatever reason fell through?

@Tasuki
Yes, he actually played Aquaman in the pilot episode (the only episode filmed for the show). After Aquaman was not picked up, Hartley was cast as Oliver for Smallville.
I liked that it's the first thing since JLU (YOUNG JUSTICE DOESN'T COUNT!!!) that Green Arrow's appeared in though I didn't dig the fact that he didn't actually have a mask
Formerly MickeyTheGreat and MickMick. Now I'm Mickey again!

Who knows he might get it later on, it was the first episode after all.

So far I have to say this is one of the best shows to premier this season. I like how they are pulling villains like Deadshot and Deathstroke into the storyline.

It's a pretty neat little show thus far, and I also like how they're fitting in more dc villains into the story line. :3

We are up to the fourth episdoe now in the UK (fifth coming on Monday), and I am enjoying it quite a bit. It is a bit stupid at times, but overall is is pretty fun. Actually the only show I'm following at the moment because most TV is pretty bad these days and I don't really get a chance to watch TV that much anymore.
BTW, if Deathstroke is in a later episode like what Tasuki said, it'll be fun watching my serious not-fun-at-all DC counterpart

Yeah I am hoping that Deathstroke will be more of a main villian (or at least like a henchman of the main villian) rather than a pardon the pun one shot character like Deadshot was. Deathstroke is probably one of my favorite DC villains even though hes not as cool as Deadpool.

Yeah, Deadshot's death was pretty anti-climatic... Really, REALLY disappointing, and he had literally no personality apart from being a psychopath...
If Deathstroke is like Deadshot, then lack of character development is going to be my main problem with this series...
I dont think they will tread Deathstroke like they did Deadshot mainly cause Deathstroke has alot more followers than Deadshot. Also they way that they only had glimpses of Deathstroke and the fact that they never actually said his name make me think that he will be back in a bigger part. Otherwise why go to the trouble of portraying Deathstroke like they did if they werent going to use him again? If that was the case they could have just used a no name run of the mill henchman for that part rather than Deathstroke. I am pretty sure that we will see him again, I just hope its soon.

I'm still not sure if this is supposed to be set in the dc universe, or is just a standalone thing. :3

I've been watching this show since it began and I really like it so far. The acting needs a lot of work and sometimes the story is all over the place, but so far I like the show. If they do it right, Arrow could be 5 times better than it is now.
