This is the Google Nexus Q. Its $400 media streamer that is a competitor to the Sonos style music players. It connects to the Internet and plays music via the cloud and can be paired via Nrc to any android devices. Reviews havnt been kind phrasing the overall idea and build quality but complaining about the execution. Its not really a consumer ready product yet and is currently aimed at audiophiles and developers so far. Non of that is important though, what is that this is a product that is manufactured in the U.S.A.

In an industry where most of the production is done overseas this could be the start of a revolution. Thoguh the question is the consumer ready to pay more for it. I hear a lot people I know talk of buying American only to buy the other product because its cheaper. That also factors in a big part of the price of the product. The Q for all is faults is a technical marvel and you can tell the attention to detail as well as feel the quality parts. If that weren't enough it.
Being made on the USA makes ot even more expensive. The catch is the biggest thing you hear about the Q is that its a good product but not a $400 prodcut.

Here are two articles that explain it better than I can write it.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/27/3121979/made-in-the-usa-goo...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/02/made-in-america-could-your...

So the question ia too everyone are you willing to pay more for goods manufactured in your homeland. In the long run its a good thing for the economy and Industry whereever you live. The downside is that means the cost of goods in this case consumer electronics go up.

So say the next ipad is made in America do you feel that it costing $200 more than it already does is worth it. Would the sense of pride that this was built and designed, as well as your money is going to your fellow countrymen?

Manufactured in the USA?
I'd pay less for it. (not that I want that thing anyway)

I have to wonder if you read what I wrote. Thats why I put your homeland in the title. Being an American I only can use what I know so I used the Q as an example.

Would you be willing to pay more something made in Australia?

When I'm researching a purchase I always check to see what country the item was manufactured in. As long as the quality is the same or better I'll take the locally manufactured choice every time.

Oh? So we get a Nexus Q and a Nexus 7? Google is ripping me off. I need to sue.

I can't beleive the number of threads I'm being forced to reply to on my vacation.

I don't care where something comes from as long it has decent reviews and is cheaper than others

In a perfect world, products would be the same quality everywhere, products would be cheaper in everyone's homeland because of the taxes and cost of transportation to export, and everyone would be well employed as a result.

Also, good job on creating a thought provoking thread on these forums. Not a familiar sight. lol

pretty much this. some products we don't have a choice (if you want an iDevice, it's coming from China, for example) but in terms of clothing, food, furniture, etc. and so forth I prefer to buy local. there's all kinds of great farmer's markets and stuff up here in NC anyway :3

The last time I bought goal pads, I went for what was cheaper instead of getting Canadian made, and I have to say the quality wasn't as good. You tend to get what you pay for, but even if they had been the same, I know I would feel better about them if they said "Made in Canada" instead of "Made in Philippines."

I really don't care where it comes from. I don't have any more loyalty to a person I've never met in my country than I do to a person I've never met in a different country, so I don't feel responsible for helping them pay their mortgages.

In fact, I would be more inclined to buy a product made in China or Thailand or something, as the money I've spent will in part help to develop those nations to be better for everyone.

It's worth noting though that Australian manufacturing is just about dead, so that's something most of us here have accepted.

Yeah I was going to say that - it's pretty damn hard to find anything manufactured in Australia these days!

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

You could just put that in your signature, since it seems that all your posts are written from a Kindle Fire. Didn't know that you could import posts from Evernote into the Internet, though, I'll have to look into that.

Well, at least the workers have better wages than in China. It must suck to work there. Isn't there no minimum wage there, or is it really low?

It's hard to know when you buy something from overseas if you're really helping those people or the company is taking advantage of them.

No. I don't care where it was made as long as it's a quality product.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Huh...I thought they just paid them with Hello Kitty band aids for when their hands are mangled in the machinery. Progress!

I do that too, but that's more to do with the simple fact that I like the taste of Aussie produce.

I do make sure all my uranium is mined in Australia though. It's expensive, but has a bigger kick.
