Edit Just learned that this whole time...my title was spelled incorrectly*
Now that Xbox One and PS4 are on the horizon, Nintendo will, no longer, be alone on the current gen battlefield. A quick review of my post history will show that I, personally, am not all that excited about this generation, but I know that many are!
This thread does come pre-e3, but I'm still curious. Are you excited for the current generation of consoles? What are you expecting in the upcoming months?
As I don't really think of different console "generations" nowadays, I can't really say. I have to say that in the future, there may actually be no more home consoles. Case in point: I play my 3DS way more than I play my Wii U, and it isn't really due to the lack of Wii U games themselves. Care for me to elaborate more?

For me at least, it is a lot more convenient to pick up my 3DS, pop in a game card, and get to playing (all in under 2 minutes, max), than it is to walk down to the basement, pick up the GamePad, turn on the TV, wait for the Wii U Menu to load, select a game, wait for it to load, and not to mention the wait times in the games themselves.

3DS is still on my have to buy list, but it's, also, the only new gaming device on said list. My comment here may be taboo because I have quite enjoyed my iPad and Android games. Simple games, yes, but dang fun.
I still want the 3DS, though, mainly because of two games: Phoenix Wright and a possible Trauma Center. Most of my time will be in the eShop considering I feel as though that is where all of the original, unique games are! The home consoles are devices I have lost interest in, sadly.
Only excited about Nintendo and their consoles because their the only ones that brings SOMETHING new to the table while the PS4 and XBOX ONE appear to play the exact same way as last generation just with more enhanced graphics and social networks.
Come to think of it, although I wont be buying any of the new current gen consoles, I may still keep following them. The Xbox One news alone, for example, has been some of the most hilariously interesting news I have read and watched regarding gaming in a while.
I didn't get a Wii until last year, and to be honest, the Wii U doesn't really interest me. I wish Nintendo would go back to making quality games, instead of focusing on outer-fringe technology like motion control. The new system looks like an oversized controller that hooks up to a TV, and we've seen that before; it didn't work. I still think the best systems they've done game-wise are the Super NES and Gamecube.
God, guns, and guts made America; let's keep all three.
I am looking forward to the Wii U first party software and the Platinum games stuff, but apart from that on the home console front the PS4 and Xbox One are most likely going to be too expensive for me at launch and they'll most likely not get games different enough from the last gen to make me excited for them for a while.
The 3DS, however, is simply amazing. That thing is just coming out with games left and right!

Not as excited as I were for the last generation. I don't like where the industry is headed.
That's kind of where I'm at now too. The Wii U has little to nothing that interests me, Xbox One is an absolute 'no buy' because of some of MS' dumb policies and while I was excited for PS4, I've backed off that because the actions of EA and the silence from the people at Sony have sent some bad signals about what may be on the way at E3. At least the PS3 is getting a great sendoff this year, it's smashed the competition, but what happens after the PS4 and Xbox One replace the current systems, well, lets just say I'm not overly thrilled about the possibilities.
Even though I love following it, I think the Xbox One has been a lot of the reason for why I am not optimistic about this generation of consoles. What's worse, for me, is that Sony may follow a similar route. It's like a slap to my face, if you will, that I really only pay for a license to play rather than pay for an actual product that I can say I own as my own,
