Way off topic, but I just noticed your signature, Blue Protoman, and there's no PM feature here for some reason. My Wii is not online anymore, so don't expect me to add you for months if ever (since I'll probably have forgotten about it by that time).

Come on, friends,

Nixon had great foreign policy, advocated REASONABLE! public health care, and knew the ppl of his country. He led the country out of some crazy times....

Nixon...was a great president? MY GOD. Please be kidding. Without going into a long diatribe against many of his policies (I'll admit he wasn't ALL bad, but close) Watergate is more than enough to remove him from that consideration. That, and his racism. And sexism. And anti-semitism.

To get back on target, I'm not registered with either party, but my views probably fit more with the Democrats than anything else, especially on social issues. I'm also a card carrying member of the ACLU (honestly, everyone should be, no matter your political standing).

Of course I am not kidding - every great leader has personal faults and shortcomings, even Alexsays - its called being HUMAN.

MLK Jr. had extramarital affairs - should we tear up his great works and leadership because of that?

Nixon resigned as was pardoned - does not take away his many accomplushments - how could it? Oh how the republicans could use a Richard Milhouse Nixon today - I pine for him! Nixon was a political superstar and overachiever - study his resume before you pop off next time Fox....

Ted Kennedy - can you find any persoinal shortcomings there? - Abandoning a sunk car with a young lady in back who drowned while driving drunk? Boozing, carousing, womanizing? Train-wrecking his OWN presidential run?

Why should we mourn him as a nation, - lets scorn him then - he is not perfect like Fox....

This I agree with. The Republicans have indeed sunk so low that Nixon seems like a breath of fresh air.

I just googled it and took the test too. I ended up:
Economic Left/Right: -0.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.95

Pretty darned close to dead-center. heh

Oh, I see. The reason I say is because I haven't studied his political career. How arrogant. I could go into a long argument over Nixon, including his incredibly flawed line of wartime activities but I don't see the need to highjack the thread. As I said, he made some good decisions, but they were overshadowed by his many personal and professional flaws. And being pardoned means nothing to history.

By the way, the topic title is a little unfair to our foreign members, no?

Yes, and he never had the most powerful position in the country like Nixon did, now did he? And with Kennedy, there you have a man that is indeed incredibly flawed. However, I'd rather have a drunken womanizer as a senator than a hateful political opportunist as president. With my bad talking of him, its a good thing Nixon's dead, or I might just have found myself on his enemies list and harrased by the government until ruin. Still a great guy, though.

I wouldn't give you a piss for either party, personally. It's just a bunch of politicians looking out for each other.

Plain old gamer :)

I find it funny how liberal people always confuse having strong values like "the Government should not run my entire life" and "don't kill people" (people defined as any time of life after conception) with being "closed-minded." I have a strong sense of right and wrong, which is more than I can say for most politicians or people in general nowadays, regardless of what political party you support. I only support the Republicans in the first place as a "lesser of two evils" kind of thing (they're better than the Democrats, but I agree they're nowhere NEAR where they used to be).

As it stands, I only worded my first post that way to make an arificially sharp contrast to Machu's statement, in an effort to point out how basic and flawed his simple statement was. Nice to see NOBODY caught on to that fact.

Oh, I wasn't saying being conservative makes you close minded off the bat (although it might lend itself towards it). I meant that only voting one party makes you close minded. There's nothing more annoying than someone that votes a straight ticket on principle.

P.S: Did you really need to drag your views on abortion into it?

P.P.S: You should probably quote a post if you're going to play off of it. Makes it easier to see what you were trying to do.

Yeah, I noticed that, and I also noticed how no one seemed to care how "close minded" Machu's statement was.

If that value is equal to "close-minded," your party's last president was certainly open-minded.

If you're going to act like blindly voting for one party and one party only is entirely based on the value that all life is precious, you need to keep looking for another party. Either that or, if you are okay with killing people so long as they are born first and live in another country, you shouldn't try to dramatize statements just to make the opposing argument look bad. That's not fair.

Most elections have no effect on the abortion issue anyway, so it's hardly relevant.

I'm a Democrat.

The Republicans are really only for the wealthy.

Republicans manipulate the poor and middle class voters on the abortion issue. In fact, they would never reverse Roe vs, Wade because that's how they get people to vote for taxes breaks that don't benefit them.

Republicans aren't good for our economy either. The national debt almost always increases under a Republican president:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_by_U.S._presidenti...

Some Republicans like Dick Cheney are just downright sinister. How dare they say that because we have a Democrat in the White House that we are letting our guard down to terrorists. Last time I checked, the Bush Jr. Administration didn't protect us on 9/11. How does the most advanced and sophisticated air defense systems in the world not get ONE single shot in our defense?
