The area I grew up in was pretty rural, and it was a few miles to the nearest town; I couldn't go to a friend's place unless someone could drive me there. There were a couple of kids within walking distance, but they weren't into video games.

My first gaming experiences were on the NES and SNES that belonged to some cousins, but most of them were way older than I was and were either too busy or had "outgrown" video games. It was rare that I had anyone to play Donkey Kong Country or Mario with.

My first game system ever was a Game Boy Color that I received for my tenth birthday, primarily so that I could play Pokemon. Unfortunately, a lot of trading/battling had to happen on the bus, which was the only time I saw a lot of kids outside of school. Eventually, people started to outgrow Pokemon as well, and once again I had nobody to play with (at least until the advent of online battling/trading). I never knew anyone who owned an N64 or GameCube, so I never got to play anything on those systems.

In high school, there was a group of us that got together the beginning of junior year and played WoW until halfway through our senior year, then we all became busy with sports and scholarship applications and whatnot. At first, I thought online gaming and MMOs were a great thing, until I realized that for every nice, helpful player you met, there were at least two elitist jerks.

In short, while I'm not completely a lone gamer by choice, I'm also not all open arms for online gaming either. I'd rather play locally with someone than with strangers online who may or may not stab me in the back. While I do now have a couple of coworkers who share my gaming interests, we're all very busy and rarely have the time to play games together. My little brother used to play video games, but has completely lost interest in recent years. My sister still plays games, but is a VERY casual gamer; she's moved on from DS games to playing freeware on her tablet. I still sometimes try to get her to play Mario with me, but she still won't as the bosses in Mario Galaxy freak her out. XD

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

I am a lone gamer for sure. I work a lot and go to school. Also I'm a very feminine male, so I don't have too many real friends, so I mostly spend my days off dressing up as a girl and playing games XD

I know how you feel! I'm also a lone gamer. Even though I have friends over the net who loves gaming, I don't have any real life friends to play my games with.

I don't like online gaming and I never mention to people I play videogames.
