Topic: Are you a lone gamer?

I live alone in a studio apartment in California (US Military). I have about a year and three months left on my contract in the military, so then I can finally move out and go back to Canada and Michigan.

I love playing games much more with family and friends, but here I find myself playing alone and I know a lot of games I own are single player games and I could still enjoy, such as Mario Maker, SmashBros, etc but I feel very lonely not having games to share them with.

I am essentially lone. Even when I've had gamer friends we never play the same thing really. Although everyone I know is down for Mario multiplayer of any kind. Kart, Party, Sports, whatever.

That's what online multiplayer is for. I am not joking it's surprising how when playing a game online you don't feel alone anymore, especially when playing something like CoD or Fighting games.

Pretty much a lone gamer, I need more mates that enjoy gaming as much as I do. Last time the blokes and I played a game was about 9 months ago, Halo 2.

I used to have lots of gaming friends, but ever since I changed schools for a second degree, I haven't met a single person who also happened to play video games. I know they exist, cuz I get loads of streetpasses here, but I haven't met anyone yet. I have so many local multiplayer games, too. My girlfriend plays games with me sometimes, but we never play against each other competitively, cuz I usually win . So basically, I've got a bunch of games like Smash Bros, Rayman Legends, Wii Party U, and Nintendo Land that I bought specifically to play with lots of other people locally, but no one to play with. I probably got to get myself out there a little bit better, though.

@Tasuki: I don't get quite the same thrill from online, though. Even a game like Splatoon would be more exciting if it supported local turf war, imo.

It's funny really, as I love playing single player games, especially one with a worthwhile story or is both cinematic and engrossing (The Last of Us and BioShock Infinite are two good examples).

Yet I much prefer to play the likes of Mario Kart 8 and Wii Sports with my friends if the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, I am growing up and my friends are starting families or have moved far away enough to make local multiplayer games a rather tricky proposition.

That's what happens when you drift away from college/school/university to the real world of family life and work. I kind of miss the simple carefree days of playing with (and against!) my PSone and N64 multiplayer chums.

Yep. But it's often by choice. I just generally prefer single player games.

But I also just graduated college, and I'm basically in a place where I have very few friends, and even fewer who like games, so I definitely understand the "forced lone gamer" aspect too.

I go to a friend's house every now and then for some local gaming fun with him and his brother. Other than that though; I guess I am also a lone gamer.

I don't mind the fact; kinda like it actually. My younger self always wanted to play multiplayer with others, but the parents weren't interested and no-one within the neighbourhood was too into Nintendo like I was. Now if anyone visited the house and for some reason wanted to play, I'd feel weird since I'm used to playing games by myself and I knew that they would not know what they're doing...

Assuming this is just talking about local so communities like Nintendo Life don't count then yes I am lone. This is where strong single player experiences like the Fire Emblem franchise and fantastic online multiplayer like the Halo franchise helps out a lot.

I have roommates now, so no. But before, I would just play online a lot more often. I am actually getting back into Splatoon now and am really happy. I don't play Local Multiplayer often because when the choice is there, we normally just play board games.

@Peek-a-boo: I agree. Growing up sucks lol. I remember back in the days when my friends and I would get together almost nightly for a few hours of MK64, Goldeneye, Star fox 64 on the 64 or Tekken 2, Madden, WWE games, on the PS ONE and even pull all weekend game binges, lol. Then real life happened, jobs, significant others, kids and just us going our seperate ways so for the next few consoles PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360 I stuck to mainly single player games. Till my son got old enough but still for awhile there I had to be picky on what games to play with him, nothing like Halo or CoD when he was very young, but still it was just me and him not me and three others like back in the day.

Fortunately the last few years I meet some guys at work so every week we get together and play a couch multiplayer game with them and my son and it's like old times for me. What's nice now though is I have a wide variety of systems to play from older ones like the N64, Dreamcast, PS2 to newer like the Wii U and PS4.

But yeah I miss those days of N64 multiplayer gaming.

While I tend to play alone (and enjoy to be alone in general) I like playing with my friends/family more. Nintendo Land, Smash, MK8, Starwhal, etc. are amazingly fun games, and I try to carry them with me every time we have a "party". I even bought more wiimotes so we can all play!

Check out my super awesome Super Mario Maker levels.

Back when I was younger (up till mid 2014) I'd have my friends come over and my brother and I would play loads of games with each other. Sometimes it got to be the best experience of the day, despite the fact that my friends preferred Sony's consoles. I'm just happy I got to enjoy Nintendo games with others.
Now that I've moved on to the next chapter of my life I don't have friends who can play with me, and my brothers are too busy to play games as much as they did when we were younger. On the plus side I have better internet service which means the online mode is there if I want to play with anyone else.

Pretty much, although I'm doing my best to indoctrinate my kids in the merits of gaming - my recently 4 yr old daughter has over 60hrs logged under her profile for SM3DW, and 95% of those hours were probably spent with me playing alongside her. Just waiting for her younger brother to catchup now so we can outnumber their mother and force her to join us for some 4-way.

I'm not a socialiser, either in real life or in the gaming scene, but one game I found really good for building bonds with strangers was Left 4 Dead on Steam. That game forces you to work together, go it alone and you almost always get chomped to death. So once you log an hour or so working with a stranger, helping each other recover when they've been knocked down etc., you begin to feel the hint of a bond forming. A few players sent me friend invites as a result, something I never tend to do myself.

I'm a lone gamer, too. Unfortunately, most people I know don't like video games. Sometimes I play online, but I prefer those strange times when someone comes and we can play MK

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I prefer single player experiences for the most part and only really deal with online for fighting games. Other than that I will do local multiplayer. Online has yet to really spark my interest. I don't want to play with random strangers and I prefer to game with actual friends rather than someone I spoke to on a forum but know nothing about.

Been lone ever since I started gaming. All my friends are just into mobile and Dota. Yeah sure a few are into console gaming but really can't afford one atleast for now.

But its good because it only benefits me because getting people to play multiplayer is impossible for me.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why
