99.99% of mac owners would not give a crap about the OS. Apple isn't the kind of business to give a crap about that last 0.01%

No, that's a cut from the Batman Dark Knight Rising trailer.

I do tnt think those people would be buying a high-end notebook/ultrabook in the first place so they wouldn't have to worry about lack of a drove.

Call me a relic if you want but I still use a disc drive for many of my PC-games and some software, so my next laptop will definitely have one. Then again I wouldn't touch an Apple product with a 3 meter stick, so it doesn't really concern me.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

Well if someone is gaming on a Mac, they've got their own set of problems.. lol

I'm in the same boat as Tasuki — my netbook doesn't have an optical drive either. a decent external would be a drop in the bucket compared to what you're about to shell out for the latest and greatest in Apple computers nowadays, lol.

Theyre unlikely to be in the market for any Apple product.

Well if someone is gaming on a Mac, they've got their own set of problems.. lol

Or they regard their personal computer as a secondary or tertiary gaming platform and don't really care.

lol I'm with Sean. I use an iMac primarily for game dev (about to get a 13" MBP, yay), but if I want to game on it there's a lot of stuff available (especially since the App Store launched) that can satisfy that craving. A lot of it would be considered ancient by PC gamers nowadays, but since I missed out on practically every PC game ever made, I'm having fun catching up on classics like KotOR.

I guess so, since 70% of the world is in urbanized territory (although the US is behind in broadband coverage). Anybody excited about the new laptops?

I'm a PC.

Oh and I like optical drives too. We buy a ton of CD's on the second-hard market. Spending 2 or 3 bucks for used CD versus 8 or 10 by downloading makes an optical drive worth it for us all by itself. Plenty of other uses too, but that's one that comes to mind.

Science has discovered many wonders and i thin apple is one of them ,i'm so much interested to all product of apple and apple new macbook attracted by me a lot.Apple's new MacBook Pro with Retina display takes a new look at the high-end, pro-user notebook. Launched at the Worldwide Developer's Conference 2012 (WWDC 2012), it breaks with numerous traditions and leaves behind several legacy technologies.
Although the Apple laptop shares a lot of features with the entry-level MacBook Air range, it gives a high-end performance and reinvents the pro-level notebook for graphic artists, photographers and video editors.
The new Apple MacBook Pro's most exciting new feature is, of course, the Retina display. With a 2880 x 1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch, it crams over 5.1 million pixels into its 15.4-inch screen. That's over three million more than an HD TV.The new MacBook Pro — which is in addition to the existing line of Pro's, which was also updated today — is built around a 15.4" Retina display at a 2880x1880 resolution, 220 ppi with 5,184,000 pixels, with a display that is built directly into the unibody construction to make the notebook lighter.

Non-upgradeable isn't really a problem. Laptops never used to be upgradeable generally and those that were required non-standard parts that cost about 8 times their desktop equivalents. 16GB of RAM seems pretty huge to me. Non-upgradeable hard drives are a bit rubbish though in this day and age.

Lack of optical drive shouldn't be a problem for most users. Only if you want to play films on the system direct from the disc or you need to do lots of burning, otherwise get an external drive that you use occasionally.

For me, the issue with this machine is the retina display. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice high-res screen - my current laptop is 1920x1200 giving me plenty of screen space for my source code, but this display doesn't really increase the real-estate, it just makes the fonts smoother (plus high res photos will look nice) but at what expense? The screen adds a massive cost to the hardware, it'll eat up more system resources (particularly if it doesn't have dedicated VRAM) and drain more power (not just the actual screen, but the increased load on the CPU/GPU). I really don't think it is worth it. Fine on the phone and the tablet which you hold pretty close to you whilst working, but overkill on a laptop.

If I were to upgrade my Mac Book, I'd go for the model without the rectum display.

Hm... someone doesn't know OS X very well. As a pro at open-source tools and the UNIX shell, I can tell you that OS X is in fact far more configurable than Windows, because it actually runs on top of a flavor of UNIX and gives you a real shell, unlike all the hacked and useless Windows shells we're been given over the years. Install the optional (but free) dev tools and then throw on something like MacPorts or Homebrew and you'll be in open-source heaven, while still not sacrificing the polished OS by having to resort to Linux.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.
