you realize the celebrations/observances that are behind trick-or-treating are from Europe, right? we stole it from Britain, Ireland, and Scotland fair and square, the least you could do is acknowledge that they were running around in costumes and getting food from strangers' houses first. :3
Sure, but Halloween itself as a tradition has become quintessentially American. I'm not criticising the holiday in any way, but it's about as culturally relevant in Australia as cricket is in the US.
Do you celebrate Christmas? I don't think that's originally Australian
Christmas? As in the Christian holiday? As in the religion that 63.9 per cent of Australians belong to? That's pretty culturally relevant.
Halloween is great. Women can get all hoochified and men can live out there dream of being someone way more interesting then themselves. Nothing wrong with a special night set aside every year for that!
I'm not going trick-or-treating this year. i had a pretty bad experiece last year.... One razorblade-filled apple is one too many u_u At least I'll have fun throwing candy at the kids who come to our doorstep.
Not a fan of Halloween... kinda boring. Never really seen the point of making a crap costume to be used once a year so you can get free sweets... and then maybe mugged of your sweets by the local hooligans. :/

Gah, that reminds me every single halloween since I can remember I've gotten sick! EVERY ONE, I haven't gone trick or treating in at least 4 years. One year I got diarhea, the other I got food poisoning (I think it was anyways.), and so on. This is the year I will not get sick!! This is it! I will go get free candy dressed as Link! Scratch that Link part. I can't afford a costume like that and I can't make one.
I don't dress up anymore, but I party a bit with my friends (aka stealing candy from siblings, hours of Dr. Pepper, Little Big Planet, Lost Planet 2, Metroid Prime Hunters and B-Movies.)

I'm probably not going to dress up and go trick-or-treating just because I don't like how Halloween's all about the money. I'll probably give out candy but that's it. I like how I hate that Halloween's about the money and I spend money on Halloween candy
And don't even get me started on Christmas.
When all else fails, eat a taco.

On the subject of Christmas, is it just me, or do stores like Wallymart get their holiday stuffs out earlier and earlier each year? Ah, life is just one big 20% off sale. Then, we check out.
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

@Bass_X0: In Australia, candy grows on trees — they don't tell you that they've got millions (yes, millions) of highly trained drop bears slaving away to strip the stuff from their orchards. Whatever doesn't wind up sold to other countries winds up thrown away by the bushel every day. They clearly don't need a special day out of the year for a frenzy of candy-giving like the rest of us. :3
So, that's what Australasia is like.
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
Most of my "Halloween time" is invested in hanging decorations and trying to get my wife to wear overly revealing costumes for my personal amusement. (TBD, I know you requested to leave religion out of it, but it's almost as tough to do for Halloween as it is for Christmas). Nearly no one in my neighborhood celebrates Halloween as they regard it as an "evil" holiday and most of the non-participants head to church. My wife is wiccan and this is her "New Year" so they're probably all there praying for her heathen soul. lulz.
Fortunately, one of our neighbors just got married and his wife seems to be a heavy decorator so now we have two festive houses!
