Topic: Anybody else find it hard to get into the GTA titles?

Just bought GTA V for the PS4 last Tuesday, first time playing it, and after sinking about 7 hours into it, I just found myself bored / tired of the experience.

This isn't a first time thing either, ever since GTA 3, the only game I could ever really get into was Vice City, and that was a bit of a struggle as well (saved by Tony and the theme of the game). I think I just find the world of GTA so deplorable that after awhile, despite the tounge and cheek nature of it all, I tire of it............don't get me wrong, I love mature titles, just this year, Wolfenstein, Bayonetta 2, Watch Dogs, The Last of Us, Infamous: SS, Far Cry 4, Destiny, etc, all good to great titles........but in all of those games, your still doing something of reguard. Usually your facing an all-encompassing bad guy, terrorist, nazi's, aliens, the infected, roaming gangs, corrupted security forces, etc. Or in the case of Joel in TLOU, despite his brutal exterior and questionable actions, he still shows glimpses of a moral compass, you pity him,........but in GTA, your often just a morally bankrupt person in a realistically potrayed world,......it feels like your overly sanitizing the situation, and I get the social commentary angle, but in regards to GTA, I just that argument overplayed.

The world / sandbox of GTA is amazing despite this, no one knows attention to detail like Rockstar, but than again, the driving, shooting, and gameplay mechanics are ok,........just ok,.....and not amazing like the general environments and atmosphere.

BTW, I don't believe that GTA should be banned or censored, not at all, I just don't find myself wanting to be a part of it's world more often than not.

I actually got into GTA5 after a while (it didn't stick at first though). It's the only GTA game other than Vice City I've ever actually beaten.
But I hear you, I usually have a hard time getting into them as well.

If it wasn't for how poorly Trevor was written and shoehorned into this game, to me it could've been one of the greates game in the franchise. At least I completed it, unlike 4, which near the end starts sucking really hard.

What I don't get is the big map in those games - I mean, why have a big world, when you don't do anything about it? Other than marketing ploy or something (it's so big... like a spam message), it's pointless. Oh, I'm sorry, it's not pointless, you can search whole big map for little letters. Great collectible right there.

Vice City is perfect, though - perfect size of the city, a lot to do and no wastelands.

I liked Michael the most of the three, just because some of the situations and banter were legitimately funny.

I didn't care for Trevor or Franklin to be honest.

The thing with Franklin, is his persona kinda has this......doing this to survive / not trying to get wrapped up / good guy on the inside stereotype.......but when compared to what's going on the screen, it does not add up whatsoever.

Its hit and miss for me on GTA games. GTA III was ok I think the main reason I enjoyed it so much when I was younger was cause of how open the world was and the fact that you could do just about anything you wanted in that game. I could just spend hours exploring the city and such and not have to worry about the story. I think with GTA III I spent more time just driving around the city pulling stunts and just mugging people and such lol.

Now Vice City was a different story I really liked that one alot and until V it was my favorite in the series. I liked the atmosphere, the characters, and just the whole story was great. I eventually finished that one and was one of my most replayed games on the the PS2 before I sold it.

I passed on San Andraes, I played it a bit over at my brother in laws on the Xbox but I just couldn't get into that one. I think it was the characters overall and just the overall story. Again this was one that I had more fun just driving around the city and doing the side stuff like working out and such.

GTA IV again I played this one a bit but the car controls were a deal breaker for me it felt that every car handled like a boat that and again I just didn't find the main character enjoyable. I had more fun bowling in that game then anything else.

GTA V as I said before is my favorite one since Vice City. I really enjoy all three characters, the controls for the cars feel great, the story is one of the best (makes me feel like I am playing a heist movie like Heat if that makes sense) and the is a ton of stuff for me to do in the city. I have yet to try online mode but something tells me that is where I will put the most time into this game.

But yeah for me its pretty much hit and miss when it comes to GTA games for me. I am hoping that GTA VI will take place in Vice City and if it does that will be an instant buy for me.

I only found the three PS2 era games (III, Vice City, San Andreas) interesting. IV had awful visuals that gave me a big headache.
