In Zelda A Link to the Past it seems dvery time you save it counts as a death and increases the “Times game played” tally at the end. Is there a way to save your game but not increase the number next to your save file?
@Don
The only way to save without counting up the death counter is to beat Ganon. Yes, I am serious. I have no idea why they decided to do that. You have to play the GBA version as that one removes the death counter for saving. Don't want that one, then get the Wii U or Switch version and use the save state feature.
I see, does the game actually save if I beat Ganon without saving before and reset the game after the credits screen?
Play the gba port or a version of the game with save states.
I have the GBA version that I finished over a decade ago and am currently playing the SNES version on Switch with save state. Although I can pick up where I left off on Switch without saving I still would like to have an actual save file in the end without any number on it.

As long as you don't die and don't save in game, save states do not count because those are not in game, you'll have a 000 on your save file when you beat the game.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

Ok that shouldn’t be too hard. I’m currently in Turtle Rock and haven’t really died yet other than being revived by bottled fairies.
Glad I stumbled across this thread; I'm hoping to revisit the game on the SNES Classic before too long and apparently will need to abuse save states. I've played it before, but only the GBA version that shipped with Four Swords.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
