@People_Commenting_About_My_FPS_Rant: Two things before we go further;

#1. Opinions. They vary from person to person. It's not like being born with two arms and legs.

#2. Rants. they over-exaggerate things to the max. You need to remember that.

In my opinion, FPSs are hard to make original without changing the game genre entirely. Recently, I've been playing a game called Continuity. It's a simple platformer flash game where you try to get a red key then get to a red door. Doesn't seem original at all, right? Well, the catch to the game is that you can reposition block sections of the level to make totally new areas, leading to many unique puzzle opportunities. Now let's look at another game that is current and "unique"; Borderlands. While having not played it, it looks like a FPS that lets you level-up guns and find more than a bazillion ones to do that exact thing. Pretty unique, if I must say myself. But you know what the difference is between the two games besides genre differences? While Continuity is still a platformer by every meaning of the definition, Borderlands has been combined into a genre hybrid, meaning it is equally a FPS as it is a RPG, meaning that it's stuck in-between two almost completely different genres of gaming. See my point?

Now, something I'd like to see is a sidescroller/FPS hybrid... OH WAIT.

Not true. You can find plenty of platformers that bring nothing new to the table and instead copy to the letter more popular titles. Just look at the 8-16 bit systems.
