Topic: Anime Hate?

It has come to my attention that several people on this website have some sort of dislike for anime. This has affected people like me who happen to be a fan of anime... (NOTE! These instances have been very mild and are not the point of this topic.) I would like to point out that there are several reasons to dislike anime, but I am concerned that some of them may be for the wrong reasons. Here are a few examples:

Reasonable Excuses:
"It's Just Not My Thing": You have tried watching it, but you just don't seem to like it very much.
"I'm Too Old For It": I realize that anime is a cartoon, and is thus not usually suited for people in their thirties and such.

Unreasonable Excuses:
Fanboys: You are scared that you may end up like the guy in my sig, or may be grouped with people like him. Hate the people, not the show.
"It looks TOO Childish": If the first things you think of when you hear the word "anime" are shows like "Yu-Gi-Oh" and "Pokemon", you've got the wrong idea. There are plenty of mature anime shows such as Death Note (Convoluted story, Content) and Bleach (Content, Mature Character Designs)
"American/European Shows Are Just Better": There's a lot of garbage out there on TV, like it or not. Anime (while some of it is garbage as well) offers unique storylines that can be just as good as most mainstream TV shows. NOTE! This excuse is understandable to those who gave anime an honest chance.

Now, all I ask is for people to stop disliking anime for all the wrong reasons. Let it be known that I am in no way trying to force anime upon any of you, I merely want the undeserved hate to stop on some of the brilliant shows that just happen to be "cartoons."

I don't hate anime, just the fanboys who worship it. There is some anime that I really like but I'm indifferent towards everything else.

I like anime but im more of a manga guy tbh.

I will say that anime is not my thing. I am not a fan and never have been. But what kind of statement is that? Since when does being in your thirties not make you suited for cartoons. I am or so slightly in my 40s and love cartoons and comics. Now my 2 kids are not suited for some cartoons...but me?

@Bleachfan888 I love anime i go to my library every anime day where they show anime movies and shows and its awesome:) i don't have cable so i can't watch it on T.V. is bleach also a show? i wanna watch it lol

And why are you allowed to hate fanboys but not anime?

I'm still trying to get over the fact that they named a show after a common household cleaner. I've never seen the show (Bleach), so I'm wondering: is the name of the show relevant to anything?

@MERG: If you notice my argument, I said that anime is not USUALLY suited for people in their thirties. This is a retrospective number, and not a defined fact. I'm basically saying that anime not usually tailored towards adults, but it doesn't mean that adults can't enjoy it. Also, your second refute all depends on how you interpret my argument. I meant to say that if you are going to hate one, hate the fanboys that make people hate the show. It's ok if you hate anime if you gave if a fair chance.

I agree with what you said is acceptable/unacceptable. Some just bash anime without a real reason or watching it a bit. Love Bleach too by the way.

It's the design of anime I can't stand when watching it, it all looks to much of same thing.

I hate anime for a number of reasons. Most are plagued by piss-poor writing, poor animation and general nonsense. I usually don't really bash anime unless a good reason pops up (such as a thread about hating anime).

Wait, people on this site have been saying they hate anime? Really?

A lot of anime is crap, but you have to dig deep to find the good ones. Naruto, DBZ, YuGiOh, etc suck in my opinion.

I don't care for anime that much, I have two favorites and that's about it...any others I MIGHT watch depending on what else is on or whatever.

Ironically those were the animes that would NEVER END!!! I honestly think the best animes are the ones with 26 or fewer episodes like Escaflowne and Outlaw Star.

There are a few exceptions however (Cyborg 009 was fairly good!)

I remember Cyborg009. That was good, whatever happened to it? It had like 15 episodes then died.

Who knows, I might try watching it online somewhere.

@The Fox: It really just takes some patience to find a truely great series.
Poor Writing? Check out Death Note. It has a story engaging and convoluted enough to hold almost anyone's attention.
Poor Animation? I don't see where that argument came from...Anime shows have way more attention to detail than most other cartoons, and it doesn't cut corners when making things look great.
General Nonsense? It's a cartoon. People tend to forget that nonsense can even happen in anime (or any other show, for that matter) because it is grouped in this category. It sometimes even makes the show more enjoyable.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of anime, but I did like the first season of Death Note (second season was just OK). Some others I enjoyed are Air, Jinki: Extend, and Medabots (I loved that show when I was younger ).
