What would you consider animal cruelty? I was having a discussion with my cousin this morning. after my puppy used it on the floor he got mad saying this wouldn't happen if he went outside. So he said that you should spank the dog or puts its nose into the feces.
I personally think its animal abuse and he thinks its training even though at the dog classes they don't recommended that.
WAT!

I don't think you should hit the dog for any reason. Imagine this-your dog runs away all day, and when it finally comes home, you hit it. Your thinking - "punishment for running away". Simple minded Dog's thinking - "punishment for coming back".
Yeah, hitting an animal is pointless -- not to mention cruel -- because unless it's IMMEDIATELY after the bad behavior, the animal won't make the connection. But the "putting the dog's nose in its business" is a classic training method (but again, only effective when done IMMEDIATELY after the behavior), but i don't know how effective it is; i've never personally used it for any of the dogs i or my family have owned.
But yes 'Chu-man, killing cows for burgers is imperative. Besides, Cows are barely alive to begin with.
it isn't effective at all. Dogs will feel shamed by it and not only disconnect from their owner (making training harder) but they will form the habit of getting rid of the evidence afterward. Dogs only have one way of doing that.

Ehh, I have not idea what to think of the morality of it, especially when they actively sniff at each others' behinds to begin with, but it does work. My sister works for a vet and trains animals for a living. That's how all her dogs were trained (bring them by where they did it, fuss them and give a gentle slap, then bring them where they're supposed to go -- or something to that effect, I didn't exactly watch), and I assure you when I go over there, the only way I'll risk wading in poop is if I walk in the back yard. I'm not a pet owner myself.
If your dog growls at someone, you don't just let it. Give a swat on the nose and tell it that it's a bad dog. Tone of voice matters a lot.

oh please. a spank is not cruelty; if your doing it as a consequence. I mean dont hit an animal hard or for no reason at all. But as far as training it to not do something, I dont see a problem.
Eating meat is not absolutely necessary. Chimpanzee, which is human's closest relative, eats 99 % vegetables and fruits (and the remaining 1 % is termites which are not necessary). I eat meat, but am planning to stop it someday, cause it just doesn't feel right, and creates all kinds of ethical problems inside my head, WHICH, if left circling inside my skull, will cause medical problems when i'm older.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
If this is @ spanking vs. beating, I believe the line is very clear. One spanks their child's bottom. Beating results in bruises, black eyes, broken bones, self-esteem issues, isolationism, withdrawal, emotion/psychological/physical issues, etc. That's how I define it, but YMMV.
I have never really had a pet myself. But over the years I have seen some real jerk neighbors be more than cruel with their animals and it is quite sad. The events I am talking about is mainly had a neighbor when I was around 5, way back in the 80s and this guy would get drunk and start kicking the dog in its side. The dog was older to which upset me a lot at the time and I still think the guy is a ******* to this day. That dog was also real friendly, it would come over to me once in a while and I would pet em for a while and you could tell it was miserable. Back then though if you called the police or anything they did not do anything, they just ignored it.
