I'm curious as to what the special item was as well.
a deeply obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events, a highly sought-after collectors' item. But it wasn't even the game itself that was worth the bulk of the money -- it was the original cardboard box, which collectors value at a breathtaking $10,000
Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.
It was Stadium Events, which you probably know better as "World Class Track Meet". The game was originally released in America under the Stadium Events name, but only in a limited number of Woolworths stores as a test run, and then recalled shortly after and rereleased under the new name, as Nintendo had purchased the license in the meantime. Roughly 200 copies of the Stadium Events version of the game supposedly exist.
Please note, however, that the game got a normal release under the Stadium Events name in Europe, so the PAL version isn't any rarer than you average NES game. Only the NTSC version of the game with the Stadium Events name is worth such money.
Well, it's not like you Americans can't just buy World Class Track Meet. It's the exact same game.
(the PAL Stadium Events tends to go for more than it should, though, due to idiots reading "Stadium Events is incredibly rare and valuable" on the internet and not realizing that only applies to the NTSC cart of that name)
when i first read the title it sold for, i died for a second. i had thought that i actually used to own Stadium Events, but after some research, i found out the game i used to have was called Olympic Events or something like that
