Just thought I would post this link if anybody was confused about the (American)muffin's relation to the cup(fairy:p)cake. There's a pretty big difference, of course, I learned it by watching Good Eats!!
Should I now post a link stating the difference of Crumpets and English muffins?
Oh, and American wise, the difference between cupcakes and muffins is that Cupcakes are generally meant for desert, and normally have no filling or extra ingredients [other than the frosting on top]. Muffins are meant for any time of the day, and normally have fruits baked into them, and are made with whole grains often. The batters are quite different. [unless you bake like my sister.]
Here is the big difference:
American Muffin: It is bread mix (usually the sugary type, such as Banana Nut, Blueberry, Pumpkin, Lemon, etc) Cupcake: It is cake mix
Both have a LOT of sugar in them, so neither is really healthy.
I am going to vote against English muffins. I don't like them very much. Their texture is weird and they smell as well as taste strange to me. No if you mean our normal muffins as "American muffins" then yes I love them, but I'm not a big fan of the super sugary ones. And I've never heard of a Japanese muffin but I wouldn't doubt it's existence.
