Haha, that is harsh. Regaining your health isn't hard though, just time consuming. Find one of those rooms with two bee pipes (whatever those things are that emit infinite bee-like enemies) and kick back for awhile.

It's a huge flaw in the game, I know, but I don't think there is a perfect Metroid game. The series could really use a Symphony of the Night equivalent, an absolutely huge game with challenging but fair difficulty. Gosh I love that game.

Super Metroid is a game that was much more fun as a kid. Whenever I replayed it last, I can't remember dying anywhere except maybe Ridley and the ghost boss, and even then just once or twice. I am not really a "needless" challenge seeker, either, but I think challenge is needed for some games, particularly this one, in order to make you feel like you are alone and endangered.

Also, Zero Mission was pretty fun, and Hard Mode was a most welcome addition, but I hated being shown where to go. It flies in the face of everything Metroid.

Your first sentence pretty much summarizes this fight between us, you know. I apologize that I'm not much of an internet fighter (at least, not anymore...) and I tend to respect others' opinions so long as they're not rooted in out-and-out insanity. (Though I admit, they often are.)

Pretty much everything you list for disliking MP3 is what I LIKE about it. I love the puzzles; I thought they were clever and well-integrated, so much so that I never had to turn to gamefaqs or anything at all. Not because they were easy, but because they were logical. You tried several things, eliminated the approaches that didn't work, and you were left with the correct course of action. I like that. But, hey, that's also why I like the 3D Zeldas, and you don't.

Regarding the flaws in the first two Prime titles, I'd say that the biggest flaw in MP1 (IMHO) was the constant, ridiculously long backtracking. This wasn't a matter of retracing your steps, it was a matter of crossing all the way back across the planet to get some silly upgrade that you needed to use in the room you were in right before the backtracking began. Ugh!

MP1 may well be considered the best of the three, but I don't put much stock on "overall consensus." If I think it's my favorite, it's my favorite. If I think it's my least favorite, it's my least favorite. No amount of outside opinions will (or should) change that.

MP2 I haven't played, but I heard the light/dark mechanic wasn't so hot. I'm holding off judgment until I experience it for myself.

So...basically...I hate to disappoint all the Fight Night fans out there, but this is prrrrrrobably just going to end with Adam and I agreeing to disagree, on the topic of MP3. There's nowhere else to go with it.

I never actually thought of it as a "fight." I really intended this thread for Your Mom jokes and as a safe place to put goofy comments for the MP Trilogy debate without being off topic and having to fear deletion, a la Iwata's House for the NPC thread. Of course, it seems to have evolved into a discussion of the Metroid franchise as a whole plus silly comments, but that's cool, too! Respecting people's opinions is fun. Pretending not to is even more fun.

Whoops. That was more meant as a general kind of thing to those reading who actually expected us to get into fisticuffs over this. You and I both know that we will never agree on MP3, or on the 3D Zeldas. In fact, the only game we've ever both fallen madly in love with is Muscle March. Which reminds me, we're about due for a "play date."

I'm not saying that, I'm just saying it's not as funny when (those) white people do it. Like how black people are better at telling some jokes because of their voice and stuff. Imagine if detective Washington was white in House of the Dead Overkill, it just wouldn't work.

At the very least, if Muscle March is played for score and not just completion, as I would assume, we should have some sort of competition.

For now Adam and I have to content ourselves with playing the game "for realzz." Which means him running face-first into walls while flexing his muscles and me following him through the hole he leaves behind.

Unfortunately he hasn't successfully made it through a wall yet. But he has broken a lot of bones.

I always wanted to break a bone. Wearing a cast seems like fun. I felt like I was missing out on a fundamental life experience, so I intentionally restrained my bulging muscle mass by force of will and allowed the wall to defeat me, though I most certainly could have broken through it had I tried. Oh it would have been glorious.
