So, this is going to be a bit long, so stay with me. A friend of my cousin was injured several months ago in Afghanistan and after physical training and several plastic surgeries is finally headed back to the states. He lost his arm from the elbow down (amongst other things), and will be living in my spare room until summer while he goes through psychological, physical and career counseling.

Why am I saying this? Because the doctors told him he needed to take up a hobby to take his mind off of his troubles for even a little bit, and the nurses overseas got him hooked on the Wii. So what I need are some game suggestions that can be played with the Wiimote only (obviously he can't use the nunchuck). He's a bit of a jock (I don't mean that in a bad way) and not fond of things that are too cutesy or skew young, but other than that it's all good. Thanks in advance!

So Zack & Wiki wouldn't appeal?
What about the House of the Dead/Dead Space Extraction/Resident Evil Chronicles games?
Toki Tori?

Thank you for the suggestions! I liked Zack and Wiki, but I don't think he'd care for it. World of Goo and the RE titles might have more appeal.

What about Opoona? you can play entirely with the Nunchuck, and nothing else...?

Dude, I wish him well, I really do. I don't know if or how I would deal with that. Wiimote only Wii games sound like a good start.

SSX Blur and Sean White World Stage, both very good snowboarding games. You play with the mote pointed at the screen, you rotate the mote to turn, and flick to jump/stunt.
Heatseeker is half decent, really nice explosions (just don't look at the terrain) and intuitive pointer controls. Not sure if the war theme is a good idea but you can be judge to that.
The Boom Blox games would be great for his mind, endless possibilities, destructive goodness, and multiplayer fun.
Bowling, bowling and BOWLING!
HotD Overkill, Dead Space, Links Crossbow Training etc if he wants to shoot stuff, but again... :/
There's a heap of WiiWare puzzlers to keep the brain on the go, Art Style, Goo, Pop, etc...

There's more I'm sure, many. I'll pop back if I think of more, but hopefully others will fill those gaps. Best of luck keeping him entertained, though I reckon he's in good hands.

Also, tell him some random English bloke said to say... "we are proud, and grateful!"

  • Warioware Smooth moves. You can do most of it with one hand, there is only one part that uses the nunchuck and it's at the end so you don't have to do it.
  • Zack and Wiki is awsome and uses one hand.
  • Endless ocean (either)
I know there are more but I can think of them right now.

EDIT: Wow, I type so slow there were 4 posts before I was done.

Of course, that's perfect. You can get lost for hours!

Thanks again for the ideas! I might not be able to address them all, but keep them coming. The more ideas I have for when he gets here the more likely I'll be able to find something he likes.

@Machu: I'll be sure to pass on your kind words!

Is he a fan of older games, any NES game on vc could be played with the Wiimote only. Other than that I can't think of very much, sorry.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

@super peach I think warioware smooth moves would be too active for someone who is injured. I recomend sbcg4ap, tales of monkey island and the wiiware art style games.

@Token: yes, it's Wiimote only, but it also takes 2 hands.

i would say, however, to perhaps consider Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GC) and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii). neither is particularly cutesy (my brother is the same way with his games and loves them both), and because they're entirely turn-based, i've played with one hand numerous times because i was eating, or whatever, and it doesn't hinder the experience at all. also, both games are HUGE, so it would take up some time.

Never was a truer word spoken.

My personal choice for a Wii Remote-only game would be one of the two Endless Ocean games, as previously stated. Animal Crossing is also a good choice though is a little cutesy and is probably better when using the Nunchuk alongside the Wii Remote. Either of the three Art Style games on WiiWare (I prefer Orbient out of the three, and the upcoming light trax looks great too) would also be good choices.

The Wii Sports Resort games that are suitable (bowling, as mentioned, and also the island flyover) are great too. Plus I find swordplay to actually be easier with one hand (as long as you wear the strap!)

BecomingTHE_MAN

As others have suggested, he should try House of the Dead: Overkill and Endless Ocean 1 and 2. Also, I wish him many blessings in his life.
