TL;DR version:
The writer comments on Nintendo's business strategies. The writer believes NSMBU sells systems (Despite it having been out for months and the Wii U's rocky start), but the Galaxy games did not, believes 3D Mario games are too intimidating for younger players. He believes Donkey Kong Country 3D will bridge younger players into the franchise. Also stated is that Nintendo should bring Smash and Mario Kart out as soon as possible. He closes by stating that fans have Nintendo's high-ups on strings, and that Nintendo's new offerings look to not be as "playing it safe" as made out to be, and that games like The Last of Us are stagnating the industry. Sums it up by saying gameplay comes first.

@8BitSamurai No need to be insulting and belittling. He's right. NSMB DOES sell systems whether you agree or not. The Wii U started off strong in the Holiday season. He's right about the current lineup. and he is SO right about the Last of Us being stagnating. Next time, actually have some creative input instead of simply brushing off what someone is saying.

I'm sorry, I didn't try to be insulting or rude at all. Sorry if it came off that way. But I just can't see how NSMBU can be a major system seller and not be selling any systems. I actually tried to help you out, since a lot of people are going to see such a huge textwall and just say "nope" and move along.

@8BitSamurai Ah ok, well sorry for mistaking it that way. Usually when people use TL;DR they mean it unsultingly. But NSMBU is a system seller because it's Mario. Plain and simple. I know I bought the Wii U for the game, and I know many other people who have as well The problem is, is that it's only one game and one game is not enough to sell systems, that's why the Wii U isn't doing too well.

But thanks for trying to sum it up, I appreciate it.

I read half of it. The giant wall of text is scary, I am not going to lie. But I agree with what he's saying for the most part.

Next time put little snippets and link to the full thing. You'll grab someone's attention easier that way.

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.

Quick note I think people sometimes forget, and I think the writer here has almost certainly forgotten or simply chosen to ignore: yes, the New Super Mario Bros. games do shift units, but they are not solely responsible for that. Numerous other titles are also capable of selling systems.

I'd also like to know, if the 3D Mario platformers don't sell systems, how it's come to pass that Super Mario Galaxy has sold nearly 12 million units and Super Mario 3D Land has sold more than 8 million units (that's a 25% adoption rate according to the annual report released in April 2013, which states around 32 million Nintendo 3DS systems have been sold).

^3D mario doesn't sale as well as 2D mario. Its a reason why 3D land changed the forumla.

Anywho I disagree with author of the article on pretty much everything. Nintendo fanboys always talk new ways to play, but 3D world looks a hell of like an uprezzed 3DS game with a furry fetish.
