Sonicmaster here, and I've got a question. If you want to be a reviewer, do you have to be able to buy games yourself? Becuase I think it'd be cool to be a reviewer, but of course, I can't get points whenever I want.
Well first off you'd have to send us a sample of your work. Lots of readers write in asking to be reviewers, but only a few are chosen. We're always trying to improve our standards so the barrier to entry is much higher than it was in the past when Corbie slipped through the net
Generally reviewers buy games themselves, but from time to time we will gift them if possible.
60 bucks for essentially an expansion pack (to the world's most generic fps series, but that's a different topic entirely)...i just don't get it I guess.

Eh. I may ask my mom if I can get a blog where I can review games I have. Oh, and the reason I started this thread was wondering if I could get free games.
It depends on whether or not the developer is doing free samples or how hard-up the editors are to get a game reviewed ^_~ -- yes it's possible to get free games. Whether or not that's actually worthwhile is questionable. I did not pay for Karate Phants, but I don't think that was a bonus. Getting Minon: Everyday Hero and 5 Spots Party was pretty cool, as is getting gifted games to review from PR folk for my blog, though I will say I solicited neither.
There are times when you do have a buy a game yourself. Just depends on the publisher and the PR firm. But it is nice to get some free games. Especially the good free games.
