Kudos to Capcom for demanding people behave themselves in contests they're sponsoring. Clearly they're pioneers working toward a gaming world where females are viewed not as sexual objects and/or inferior beings helpless without a man around, but as proper opponents and — god forbid — human beings.
OH, WAIT, NO
seriously, crap like this sets my blood to boiling. they should've demanded that jerk be removed from the competition or pulled all support when it was clear he wasn't going to stop his disgusting behavior. thanks for proving you give a rat's hind-end about your female fanbase, Crapcom.

@Jumbif: sure, people are going to make idiots out of themselves, but when they're asked to stop and don't, up to the point where they go off on a rant likening sexual harassment to onions and saying what boils down to 'deal with it', that's when corporate sponsors need to take a good, long look at what they're condoning by continuing to back said idiot(s) with money. eff that guy, and eff Capcom as far as I'm concerned.

The article you posted is clearly sensational, and I refuse to get up in arms until I find some other articles that give me a better perspective on this issue.
@GundamMac: Watch the videos — the article links to the one with the Day 5 argument for you. Hear the words straight from the donkey's mouth.

Wow, that is really messed up. Makes me so glad that I'm not at all a fighting game fan. Or a very social person. so even if I was a fan of them, i wouldn't go to those fighting game tournaments D:
Its ridiculous that Crapcom just sat by and let that kind of ignorantly disgusting behavior go on and I don't get why some people were agreeing with the insanely moronic views that that idiot had.
I fail to see how one person saying idiotic things represents the feelings of all of Capcom. Perhaps they could've stopped it, but they can't control everything everyone says. If I enter a SEGA-sponsored event and rant about different racist or sexist topics, do I automatically destroy SEGA's reputation?
@Radixxs: (a) watch the hate speech, please (b) if no attempt is made by competition staff to shut you up or boot you from the competition, then yes, in that situation SEGA's rep would certainly be hurt in my eyes — especially if it was allowed to go on over a period of days in a format available to SEGA staff for review (the way this has been allowed to happen).

@Radixxs: Sure, they can't control it, but (if possible) they could've cut the feed as soon as the idiot started spewing his dumb*** philosophy. Also, instead of punishing the offender, they just offered their audience the generic "This person's views do not reflect the views of our company, blah blah" nonsense. And to answer your question, you would if they didn't step in and tell you to STFU and/or remove you (like Capcom should've done with this jerk)...
I love how these idiots hide behind the first amendment in order to defend themselves, though. Just because you can say whatever you want, doesn't mean you should. There are these concepts called tact and discretion that these guys could stand to learn...
"Don't make enemies, they'll stab your heart; don't make friends, they'll stab your back. Including me, including you, all men are trash. Don't love; don't be loved. Have nothing to do with other; live in isolation."
Wow. Just ... wow. And thus the perceived reputation (by the mainstream) of gamers being misogynistic d-bags continues.
Capcom better get out in front of this story pronto, or else they're going to face a very serious PR nightmare. Good thing they haven't done anything else recently to anger the gamer community ... oh wait, nevermind.
“The beauty of the fighting game community, and you should know this - it’s based around not being welcome. That’s the beauty of it. That’s the key essence of it. When you walk into an arcade for the first time, nobody likes you.”
"Someone brings up an instance of someone yelling the world “bitch” over and over as a female player competed, and then screamed for her rape when she lost. [Correction: this was in reference to the female character Phoenix, not a female player.] “What is unacceptable about that?” Aris asked. “There is nothing unacceptable about that. We’re in America! This isn’t North Korea! We can say what we want."
Wow. Kinda shows that these people are emotionally stunted children. I hate the basement dweller stereotype that gamers have but if we have to apply it to anyone it might as well be them.
"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."

No one said it reflects Capcom's own views, but that Capcom isn't doing enough to stop this sort of thing from happening. Like banning someone from a message board for using a homosexual slur.
Are you suggesting I be banned?
I understand, I just don't hold any grudges against Capcom, and comfort myself in knowing that morons like this are in the minority.
“For some guys, being themselves means making mildly lecherous comments or racial jokes. Now, a bunch of idiots are conflating and exaggerating this with actually being racist or sexist. That’s supremely stupid, because they’re not even close to the same.”
If being yourself includes "making mildly lecherous comments or racial jokes" is not a sign of being racist or sexist, I'm not sure what it means.
Seriously. I have friends who LOVE the fighting games mentioned, and they play them with passion, but they never really become complete idiots. And they get very happy when someone new to these games wants to play with them.
