Pretty sure that's sarcasm. The grammy never has been an accurate or good judge of music anyway. Mainstream music now is crap for the most part. You're right for the most part. A lot of the stuff this year is pretty forgettable and weak. The Grammy's occasionally recognize quality though. Arcade Fire swept the awards in 2011 and I consider them to be a very good group. I didn't watch tonight (it might still be on, I don't know) but I know there are some great bands and artists nominated throughout. I'm fond of Jack White, The Black Keys, and Mumford and Sons. Gotye's song was a favourite of mine until it was played 24/7 everywhere. Just looking at a couple other nominees, I spotted Bruce Springsteen, Muse, and Florence and the Machine; all good stuff in my opinion.

The Grammys, like any other award show, are a popularity contest.
Either way, the song of the year to me was Drake's "Take Care" (ft. Rihanna), a much more creative and emotional track. Few rappers dare to step into this kind of emotional territory.

(and the album of the year was undeniably Frank Ocean's Channel Orange, which isn't even on the same level of the other album of the year nominees)
