Now if only the 3D television designers could come with a glasses free method of watching the programs without those glasses like Nintendo has done with the 3DS.

They're already saying the auto-stereoscopic technology in the 3DS will come down in price enough that you'll start seeing TVs using it in five year's time. Of course that begs the question of why they're rushing to push technology to market that is likely to have a negative reception from people who don't fancy replacing their recently-purchased flat panel TV and buying multiple pairs of expensive glasses to wear in order to watch it with family/friends. Surely you'd get a better feel for the popularity of the technology by adopting that which requires the least mucking about on the part of the end user?
I still see no point to 3D on a 2D display, so my money will be staying put!
i remember reading about tvs that have cameras to detect where your eyes are and then send a different image into each one, producing 3D without glasses in a vaguely similar way to the 3DS. the problem is that only a few people can watch at once and they'd have to be sitting all in one place, otherwise the tv can't keep up.
No, I mean that your television is a flat panel, as opposed to projecting a hologram or a "true" 3D image which would be 3D even if viewed from multiple angles. Using technical trickery (or wizardry, depending on how enamoured you are of it) seems like a big waste of time to me. It's only a couple of steps removed from the old red-green specs you're referring to and not terribly worthwhile.
I only see the use for this 3D technique on handheld devices, like the 3DS and phones. Since their a handheld, you can easily change the viewing angle. You can't do that with a TV.

I can see this affecting some game design, but outside of Looksley's Line-up-style games, it really does seem to be just about "stuff coming out the screen at you" and I don't really care about that.

LOL. Sitting together in one place? Well, at lest that would have one positive effect. It would be a sure fire way of bringing families closer together in stunning, magical and happy 3D.
Of course it's about interesting. No one is going to buy the most expensive TV possible for the sake of funding the continual advancement of technology, haha. If they want it to catch on and sell, it has to be interesting. My attention span is fine, thanks.

Because they justed wasted an gargantuan amount of money on making a 3D television which requires glasses for the 3D to be enabled. More people prefer a "no-glasses" 3D television set, and more people will purchase this television as opposed to Sony's BRAVIA HX800 Series 3D HDTV, and Sony will recieve very little money from this product, because it's "old technlogy" In a nutshell, auto-stereoscopic display > "with-glasses-3D"

Everyone is going to wait five, six maybe seven years until this comes out? I'd think about that for a moment.
