I like the thumbs up / thumbs down system on Eurogamer, it makes it really quick and easy to find the more interesting comments because each comment has a green or red number next to it displaying the level of positivity/negativity for each comment. Also it's fun going through the comments section and backing certain opinions that are similar to you own, especially when you don't want to duplicate the same kind of comment, or if you can't be bothered to type anything out but want to express what side of the fence your on.

Anyway, seeing as though I prefer this site to Eurogamer I would like to recommend that you implement the same system. That would be cool!

Please note that I have no idea if that would be a serious undertaking or if it has been suggested before. But I did a general search for similar topics and found nothing. Hence why I'm posting.

That would be cool, but what if I make a bad joke and people rate the comment badly? THAT CAN'T HAPPEN TO ME!!!

Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar.

I don't see any need for this feature, and I'm sure Ant's got his hands full with the reviews function and all.

I prefer to just read the review. I don't give two $h!ts about whether the reviewer liked it or not, I just want to know if I'll like it or not, and no thumbs-up/thumbs-down/thumbs-up-your-bum system is gonna make that any more or less easier.

@mickeymac: I mean for the comments, not for the reviewer.

@WhoKnew: On Youtube the comment disasppears if it gets heavily thumbed down. I wouldn't endorse such a feature. The comments on eurogamer still stay, even if it's like -25

i don't like that thumbs-up-thumbs-down/plus-1-minus-1 stuff. like you said in your previous comment, Luigi, on some sites the comment gets grayed out and barely readable/disappears into the comment tree if it's voted down enough, which I don't agree with -- we're all here and we all deserve to have our say, whether your opinion is unpopular or not, and also i can see that function being abused easily on the main site. it's easy enough to skip over something you don't feel like reading. just like forum post counts, i'm happy we don't have it here. :3

Oh, well, some sites do use thumbs-ip/thumbs down for reviews, I figured you were suggesting we switch to that system(you wouldn't be the first).

Thumbs up/thumbs down for comments would be an even worse idea. All it's really good for is getting rid of stupid gibberish and flamers. Here we got moderators to take care of those.

You say it would help find more helpful comments? How? And why would you need that? If you need to look through the comments to find something, just skim. Trust me, it's not that hard. I suck at skimming, yet it still only takes me a minute or two to find what I'm looking for, if it's there at all.

If anything, it would just deter commentors, since some people might be afraid of seeing their comments get a -25 just because they voiced their opinion.

Really, IMO, adding that feature wouldn't do us any good whatsoever. Like Whoknew said, Youtube uses that system, and lets just say it's the reason why I don't comment on Youtube anymore.

Good points! Thanks for your contributions.

I really like NintendoLife and don't want to do anything to harm it, I just want to think of ways to improve it and make it more interesting. Personally I think that there are things that could be done to encourage more intelligent debate ( like there used to be).

I agree with theblackdragon, the plus 1/minus 1 thing is barely a good thing, and I don't like it so much either. I'm glad NintendoLife doesn't have it. We all need to have our say!

To each their own
