Topic: the new forum su . . . is not what i expected.

i am all about the integration of the sites. its all good. but the new forum sucks! where are all the old threads? where are the formatting buttons?? why did we make a new forum that just plain sucks?? can i access an old thread to copy paste even?

The lack of formatting buttons is strange indeed, but I think most forum users know the basic formatting BBcode.
Did Nintendo Life have a forum before this, or are you talking about the VC-Forum? The VC-Forum is still up at the old address, though I like this forum better.

@Sponge, rather than just saying "it sucks" why not actually request the features that you feel are missing? After all we're here to try and make the site work for everyone.

As for the "old" forums, your probably referring to VC-Forum which has always run separately from VC-Reviews, that forum remains in place and is up to their admin to do what they like with.

sorry. i guess you are right, although i did mention some of what i was worried about. i didnt know the other forum was still up, as i always linked through vc-reviews. i thought you guys just deleted everything, and i spent a bit of time on a particular post last night only to wake and not be able to find it. basic formatting is one thing, i know img codes and how to bold, italic, etc. but i had a numbered list going, and a button is easier than trying to manually format, especially since i was going to continuously update my thread.

please add formatting buttons if possible.

@Sponge, okay noted, we'll get some formatting options in here shortly... it'd probably a WYSIWYG editor though, better than messing about with bbcodes

one feature I'd like to have added is, when you're on the main forum page.
it says that there is a new post, but doesn't tell you what thread it is, can that be added?

@WiiGuy, yeah I guess so... if you click/hover the time link, eg "22 secs ago" it will link you to the last post (and by the url you could preview the topic) but I guess it might be nice to include the topic title above it?

it would certainly be a nice add. ive noticed it too, but it was too small to mention.

@pHaT-aNt_: You've done really well on the 'site tbh, just give people time.
Also: don't make the formatting options too complicated, and try to ensure that the design isn't ruined with extra buttons and icons for posting comments, since the simplicity of these forums are what I feel make it so good.

@Wiiloveit, have to agree with that... the general feeling between our staff was that alot of forums have way too many buttons and features that people don't really need - on the whole.

Hence we tried to make everything as simple as possible and add things if a number of people seem to want it, seems a good way to go anyway thanks for the comments.

Good - I remember when there were forums underway for WWW, I actually suggested that the commenting system already underway on the articles was fine, and if the forums could be as simple as that, it would be excellent. Plus, this feels more welcoming to newcomers since they aren't bombarded with too many new things - I remember when I first tried out the VC-Forums, I wasn't too happy and only posted about two or three times.

I also like how you can comment on the same page as the previous comments, and how you automatically snap to where you'd previously read in each thread. Keep up the good work, guys!
